Thanks to @physicianhosp for having me speak on AI in the future of healthcare at the leadership conference in Napa. I had an incredible time and made some brilliant new friends! @DrBruggeman@DrDiGiorgio et alia!
I turn 51 today. Washington has spent 16 of those years restricting physicians from opening and expanding hospitals.
After more than 25 years building healthcare businesses, here’s my birthday wish list:
1. HHS, CMS, and Congress: end Medicare’s hospital markup. Why the hell are taxpayers paying hospitals more for the same procedures independent surgery centers already perform?
2. Ban Certificate of Need laws nationwide. Repeal Section 6001’s restrictions on physician-owned hospitals. Stop choking off competition and acting shocked at the prices.
3. Require prices patients and employers can compare before treatment and enforce when the bill arrives.
4. Reform the 340B drug discount program. Show what hospitals pay, what they collect, and what patients receive in financial assistance. Tie the benefit to documented help for patients.
Democrats and Republicans have fundraisers. I have a birthday wish list.
Somehow, their guests always get their wishes granted.
P.S. Thanks to my Mom for the awesome Ai bday card.
@DrLGarl and I just left this inspiring conference today. Thank you to @physicianhosp for organizing a truly delightful weekend. We feel energized and encouraged by our colleagues. There is something about shaking someone’s hand and hearing their story face-to-face that brings people together in a way we just can’t accomplish on X or online.
We are cheering on our fellow entrepreneurs, docs, policy experts and fellow *disrupters*. Thank you for allowing us to introduce @SelkirkCenter and our team @ECGcte DW Architects, of course @HeathVeuleman needs no introduction- and we will see y’all in our hometown next year!
*Thank you to @EPotterMD for a truly inspirational speech. I think the entire room was left reminded why this work is so sacred and what humanity, honesty, and the “golden rule” are all about.
@DutchRojas bring the cigars to Idaho we will bring the vino 😉
@noahkaufmanmd@DrBruggeman@DrDiGiorgio@DrBrian4Health@BKRBusinessMin@EverettBonnerMD@asbelmontes and I’m sure I’m forgetting others!
Physician-led healthcare leaders gather once a year in person to share ideas at PHA's Leadership Summit.
We just wrapped up in California, and we're on our way to Idaho in 2027.
Some of the sharpest public policy minds across the medical specialties were in the room at PHA's 2026 Leadership Summit.
Orthopaedic surgeons and non-orthopaedic surgeons across the nation turn to @DrBruggeman for his deep dives into federal policy.
His two sessions two sessions gave a clear read on what's ahead in Washington.
The Spine Section proudly stands with our colleagues at @PhysicianHosp in supporting physician-led healthcare and strengthening the patient–physician relationship.
Section 6001 restricts physician-owned hospitals from competing on the same terms as other hospitals. We support its repeal and a more level playing field—one where innovation, quality, and patient choice can drive care.
Thank you to the physicians and advocates working across specialties to advance these important conversations.

The next generation of physicians deserves to inherit more than a job application.
My question at PHA in Napa: What are we building with what we’ve been given?
Physicians spend decades earning patients’ trust and building practices.
Stewardship includes deciding who gets to own those practices after we retire.
Build hospitals, captives, practices, and shared businesses that younger physicians can buy into and eventually lead.
We cannot accept the status quo, the regulatory capture, and consolidation.
We must fight for the future we want to see.
Speaking with the community that @physicianhosp has created was a great honor. I am deeply grateful for the time I spent with those in the room today and left more determined and encouraged💪🏻
@EPotterMD@physicianhosp As I expected it would be, your speech was the inspirational highlight of many outstanding presentations at this conference. Thank you for making the effort to share your story in person. 👏🏻
More than a surgeon. Her patients' advocate.
We're proud to feature @EPotterMD at the PHA Leadership Summit.
Dr. Potter is one of the country's leading breast reconstruction surgeons. But ask her patients, and they'll tell you she's more than that.
When a woman is facing the hardest decision of her life, she needs someone in her corner — someone who understands the medicine, knows her personally and speaks for her interests above all else. That someone is her physician. And Dr. Potter has made being that person her entire practice.
This is the heart of medicine: the patient-physician relationship, the most important partnership in healthcare. It's built on trust, on knowing your patient's name and her story, on standing beside her from the first consult through recovery and everything after.
Dr. Potter lives it every day. She doesn't only rebuild what cancer takes — she gives her patients a voice, an ally and a champion at the moment they need one most.
We're taking a quick break from Day 2 of PHA's 2026 Leadership Summit to share some exciting news: PHA's 2027 Leadership Summit is heading to Idaho.
Twelve months out is the perfect time to lock in your plans.
It was great to see some of our exceptional AANS/CNS Washington Committee leaders with @physicianhosp over the weekend at its national conference focused on putting physicians back in the driver’s seat and strengthening the patient-physician relationship.
Congress got it wrong with Section 6001. It’s time to repeal it and let all hospitals compete on a level playing field.
Patients vote with their feet. Let them decide.
