@economeager Isn’t there a sense in which the claim is true for almost all cases? I’m thinking of a causal relationship between Y and X, Y=f(X,theta,U) parametrized by a finite dimensional theta. Then, fixing the distribution of X and U, the set of thetas such that Cov(Y,X) = 0 is measure 0?

@maibennett Last summer I included very small exercise problems during lecture. The text of the problem is on the slide for 2 mins and I asked students to try it out on their own. At the end I’d ask for a volunteer to walk us through. A good 50% of students would engage verbally or via chat
