Florence, who fled war in DR Congo and rebuilt her life in Uganda, reminded me why refugees must not be stereotyped.

She is a resourceful single mother, an entrepreneur boosting the local economy and a community leader — thanks to Uganda’s refugee policies.

Seven refugee women in Rwamwanja settlement painfully shared the horrors they faced in DR Congo, barely escaping brutal, unimaginable violence alive.

In Uganda they have found safety. Their wounds must now heal.

Peace in Eastern DRC remains elusive. Millions suffer. Till when?

I am in Uganda: the country hosting the most refugees in Africa.

Every month 10,000 new refugees arrive here, escaping violence in neighbouring DR Congo and now Sudan.

Uganda’s refugee policies are generous but public services are overstretched. A collective response is needed.
