@ThoughtfulSaint@23wjohnston Theosis as it is understood primarily through the Orthodox tradition is not equivalent to Latter-day Saint doctrine. Theosis pertains to participation, not emulation.
The problem with the fight over the role of women elders in the SBC is that it will take those supporting women elders to be regenerated to see their error. These are mostly unregenerate individuals pushing a worldly ideology.
@fivesolatyler The problem with the fight over comps bearing false witness against egals is that it will take comps to be regenerated to see their error. These are mostly unregenerate individuals bearing false witness against siblings in the faith.
@LABC222 I sympathize with your experience, as much as I can, having learned about it 30 seconds ago, but I don't think this disproves what EP is saying. I think he'd agree there is a time to leave.
But many Christians are robbing themselves of genuine community by always moving.
@meetuatthefence@MikeWingerii The Message is a paraphrase. Eugene Peterson was very clear about that. It's literally called "The Message PARAPHRASE"
It's not his fault people misuse it.
@KaeleyT It seems to me that the goal is to belittle LGBT+ folks who already are looking to be proven right, that Christians are mean-spirited people.
I can affirm a traditional sexual ethic while also saying that the folks doing this are committing, ironically, the sin of pride.
@chriscathell@HonestYPTweets You mean the statement of faith that Al Mohler said wouldn't result in the disfellowship of egalitarian churches?
That statement of faith?
@BereanPulpit@JoshuaBarzon The Message is a paraphrase by a phenomenal language scholar. It's not Eugene Peterson's fault people misuse it.
Don't compare it to TPT.
@AlvarezBower@howertonjosh@waitingfordb@JimmySpencer@jamestalarico The last three churches I've been apart of
1) had to let our associate pastor go due to budget
2) has one full time staff, meets in a cafeteria because that's all they can responsibly afford
3) had a fundraiser last night where they sought to raise $50k and raised $31k.
@AlvarezBower@howertonjosh@waitingfordb@JimmySpencer@jamestalarico Yeah? Why aren't institutions great places "these days"? Could it be due to the de-funding of mental health services?
And no, churches can barely pay the bills. You think they can provide intensive therapy and social work? Let's start with keeping the lights on.
