@amerikkkanboy@Hezbolsonaro I think it’s because it’s a high level aggregation so it ensures they have to censor as little of the data as possible. Generally the government doesn’t release statistics involving <5 individuals for privacy reasons.
@ae_stallings There were more basic automations for publishing weather reports, sports scores, and autogenerating stuff like movie/game release date articles based on SEO
@littmath@zucchini_zealot Imagine someone solved this for $15/hour working part time for some data labeling company called like https://t.co/l3uTNwp5CF
@voird33r@rieszspieces I liked one joke about it in a forum a while back: actually it’s the most accurate test for grad school because getting asked 100 calc 1 questions in a time crunch is a perfect simulation for being a math TA.
@usepapertrace@elisaxchen It’s not what makes the final determination, but the initial screening. If the department is seeing enough high quality candidates who who show research promise from the metrics you mention, there’s really little motivation to change it (unfortunately)
@6thShitPosting@nikicaga As the tweet said, lottery and gambling winnings aren’t taxable in Canada. They’ll even refund you taxes you paid on gambling winnings in the States in some instances. Just one of the many reasons US would be lucky to become the 11th province.
@TheKoopaGuy@Sorcerer0fEld My only objection would be that with some places in like California, Nevada, and Arizona you do get kind of a fun contrast between suburban strip mall parking lots covered with local fauna (which is often treated as exotic). But that novelty wears of really fast.
@no_earthquake I come from a pure math background and the last few years has been slowly realizing that the reason scientists and engineers publish so much more than mathematicians is that they seemingly read and think about nothing.
@roydanroy@AcerFur The left looks more like student typing up homework than a working paper. Overly verbose proofs read more like upper undergrad and first year grad assignments than a rough draft of a paper.
@TyroneWiyyums@Whois673@Emmys From their perspective it comes with a reduction in risk of default. And they probably don’t hate it that much because they’re not forced into it, the amount and frequency of extra payments you’re allowed to make on a mortgage is determined by the bank.
@suhchis@lachancenaomi27 If you’re studying “history of ancient Egypt” specifically you probably *already* are in a post-grad degree and your “class” is your adviser’s other student. And your undergrad probably taught you how to do research, structure an argument, examine bias.
@focusfronting I always empathize because I’d be in that position if the gifted teacher at my school wasn’t an old Russian guy who has a Slavic instinct to tear down the confidence of anyone he cares about.
