@SamanthaLCoy Q5 This year we added self reflection to our pre and post tests which was a helpful piece for students. It caused them to have to pause and think about their choices. We will continue to model goal setting and reflection for academic and personal goals.
@DianeDame19@SamanthaLCoy@ColleenAdam4 I completely agree. When everything starts getting busy and expectations become overwhelming we will have to step back, take a breath, and give ourselves grace to focus on these relationships.
@SamanthaLCoy Q4 I feel that warmth and support comes from relationships building and truly taking the time to see and know each student. Getting to know things about their interests and starting non academic conversations is truly important. #BESPLC
@ColleenAdam4@SamanthaLCoy I often find that the students create much harsher consequences than I would have in these moments, which often leads to a discussion more meaningful than any of the consequences would have anyway.
@SamanthaLCoy A3 I plan to create a classroom culture where student choice and the responsibility that comes with that choice are a normal part of our day. #BESPLC
@SamanthaLCoy A1 I plan to kick of the school year the same way I always do by letting students know it’s a clean slate and they have the power to chose to be whatever kind of student they want to be. We will focus on class building and relationships first. #BESPLC
@SamanthaLCoy A5: My goal for next year is to take the time to truly teach/model the expectations from the beginning. Hopefully putting the time in up front will help take away from dealing with disruptive behavior time later on during the year. #BESPLC
@BiancaBashor And it carries over into work. Mess up in writing and math. Mess up writing on the board. If they only ever see our perfect versions and final copies they will never know the failures that we had that build the final product.
A4: As an adult/teacher/parent it’s important to admit our own imperfections so children can see that they are not expected to be ‘perfect’. Adults apologizing for not handling something perfectly allows kids to realize that we mess up too, just like them, and it’s ok. #BESPLC
@heather62534873 I completely agree! Empathy is so important. It helps change my reactions/thoughts when I consider where the persons thoughts/feelings may be stemming from.
@SamanthaLCoy A3: This year I’ve tried to put a focus on self-management & goal setting. Showing students that its ok not to meet your goal immediately and how reflection can help you to make adjustments that will lead to meeting your goals. #BESPLC
@SamanthaLCoy A2 I like using BAW sentence starters. Students have to listen to others before they can respond. Before they were so eager to share that they were not truly listening this led to repetition in answers. Now there’s deeper discussions when they say ‘I agree because’ #BESPLC
