A6 I think we do a great job with integrating SEL across all subject areas with Kagan. But adding project based learning to increase rigor and cooperative learning would be amazing and so fun & engaging for the students#BESPLC
@gafford_allison I like the idea of letting them set a personal goal for their writing during ELA stations time. They can choose to align it w/ what we're doing in BAW or add a new goal. I love when they look for examples as a self-reflection. #BESPLC
A5 Have discussions about work & ask how to improve. I relate it to “a story is never done, it continues past ‘THE END’ b/c you could create a new ending that the author didn’t think of.” It increases understanding of different perspectives when faced with the same issue. #BESPLC
@Juliann27040819@SamanthaLCoy I love doing that in my EDM small groups! It helps them see that not everyone's brain works the same and provides that validation for their choices>#BESPLC
@SarahElliott002 I do the same thing! I make sure they understand that we are not perfect. I always say, "We don't need perfect, just your best. That looks different for each person, including me."#BESPLC
A4 I really liked the journaling AnnMarie shared where the students talk with her about what they do to help their hearts. I feel that this is something I want to start with kindergarten. #BESPLC
@EllerbeMarcie@MartiHancock11@kimmyd1652@SamanthaLCoy Agreed. Consequences make us want to or not want to do something again. Conversations about what the behavior stemmed from and how to better self-regulate help to change the behavior. #BESPLC
@CoachLRandolph@Chenry521 Absolutely! And when "your choice" is validated is even better. Too often we provide choices, but not what students would really get excited for. Letting them help create those choices sometimes though would increase enjoyment and quality. #BESPLC
A3 I want to encourage student responsibility by letting them continue to peer tutor and read to other classes. I want to increase it by allowing them to help “create” class norms for behavior. #BESPLC
@marissadfranks@SamanthaLCoy I like the idea of sticky notes! What about a praise journal? The little mini ones? That way the kids can keep your praises to look back on.#BESPLC
@ColleenAdam4@SamanthaLCoy I like that you allow them to revise! That is a great link to real life laws and why we need to be aware of the social and emotional health of others. So we can make the necessary changes to protect all people's rights. #BESPLC
A2 I will continue to give specific praise for a job well done & facilitate conversations to lead students to figure out a better way to handle emotions/situations. Lead them to a better understanding of what works for their own social/emotional well being. #BESPLC
@kimmyd1652@SamanthaLCoy For your students &younger kids, the abstractness of some consequences is hard to grasp. Making "natural consequences" seems to help them make that connection even later in life. #BESPLC
