Educators: this is our moment.
We’re going to make sure that every child, every school, and every educator has what they need to thrive regardless of where they live or where they come from.
I think this one is important right now for us all. “Making appointments with yourself and scheduling other things around them is key to proactive self-management.”-Michael Hyatt #BESPLC
A6 I want to take the SEL from BAW and blend it into all other subject areas. I want to specifically write it in to the core lessons we teach. This will be easy for students to adapt to as they practice in BAW. I just have to make sure I am consistent in my implementation.#BESPLC
A5 In first grade self assessment/reflection is best simplified. Having one goal at a time is ideal. This gives them motivation to think deeply about that goal and have a sense of achievement once they reach it. They will take ownership and pride in their learning.#BESPLC
@PowleyMrs@ColleenAdam4@SamanthaLCoy I have also found students are harder on themselves than I am. When I have them do a self reflection for SLC they judge themselves so harshly! It does create an opportunity for deep discussions about their decision making though. #BESPLC
A4 I tell my students stories of my time in school when I struggled so that they know we are the same. This helps them feel comfortable with not always being perfect or right. A personal connection will be important for students after being out of school for so long.#BESPLC
A3 Peer tutoring is a huge motivator in first grade. Implementing a procedure where students have a peer buddy they "get to" help once their work is finished will encourage students to be more responsible with their work time without me hovering over them to stay focused. #BESPLC
@CoachLRandolph I feel like it moves their thinking from "my teacher is telling me what to do" to "my teacher wants to keep me safe" and keeps them from rebelling and makes them think more about my love for them. #BESPLC
A1My main focus has always been to help students recognize their emotions and behavior and learn to regulate them. Going back I plan to make more of an effort to be sure my consequences directly match the behavior in a logical manner as stated in the article. #BESPLC
@JennCrawford16 I feel the same! I think the transition has been easier because it was something we were already working to achieve within our student conversations. #BESPLC
A2 I try to use language that restates the positive behavior and to coach good problem solving. I find myself slipping out of that habit when things get crazy in the school year. I'd like to strengthen my consistency in my teacher language. #BESPLC
A5:My goal is to allow my students to see me work through my own emotions and struggles. I always try to be “real” with them in academics and I want to make more of a point of being “real” with the SEL piece so they feel more connected and less alone in their feelings. #BESPLC
@DinkelJill I think sometimes as adults we fear showing weakness or vulnerability so we hide it. I think it’s important to show it and model handling it for our little people.
