The State Election Commission (SEC), which is meant to protect democracy, has become subservient to @ncbn. The shocking incidents during yesterday’s municipal polling across the state, including in Pulivendula, show how the SEC is enabling election irregularities.
Yesterday in Pulivendula, YSRCP agents were kept out of 70 of the 80 polling booths. TDP goons brought in from other areas went on a rampage with the support of election officials and the police. They attacked our party agents to stop them from entering polling booths. In some places, they dragged our agents out of the polling stations. These incidents took place with the police’s support.
Voter slips were snatched from people, polling booths were captured, and votes were rigged and cast repeatedly. The video evidence of these incidents is clear. Agents from all 70 booths came to me personally, showed their agent forms to the officials, lodged complaints and protested. The entire state witnessed what happened.
Yet the SEC’s response was shocking. Irregularities took place in 70 of the 80 booths, and our agents were attacked and forced out. In these circumstances, how was it fair for the SEC to order repolling in only four booths and then wash its hands of the matter?
The SEC’s decision to order repolling in only four booths in Pulivendula, despite irregularities in many more, was an eyewash meant to mislead the public. Can these elections be called free and fair? If the Election Commission, which is responsible for protecting democracy, turns a blind eye to the ruling party’s wrongdoing, how can people’s right to vote be protected? How can the public retain faith in the electoral system?
These incidents were not limited to Pulivendula. Election irregularities took place across the state, including in the municipal corporations of Kadapa, Anantapur, Tirupati, Kurnool, Chittoor, Ongole, Guntur, Nellore, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. Similar incidents occurred in several municipalities, including Macherla, Chilakaluripet, Vinukonda, Jammalamadugu, Nandyal, Chimakurthy, Giddalur, Emmiganur, Sullurpeta, Palasa, Dhone, Naidupeta, Nandigama, Jaggayyapeta, Kuppam, Puttur and Parvathipuram.
We will fight these election irregularities in court to protect democracy. We will place every piece of evidence before the courts. Justice may take time, but truth and justice will ultimately prevail.

Andhra Civic Body Polls Flashpoint
‘YSRCP denied nomination rights’: YS Jagan Mohan Reddy stages dharna in Pulivendula, demands a repoll.
They rigged the nominations. People were not even permitted to file nominations... In 20 councillor seats, not even nominations were filed... they have literally hijacked democracy: @ysjagan speaks to @YakkatiSowmith, slamming the TDP.
Pulivendula violence disrupts Andhra Pradesh municipal polls, journalists attacked
Polling in Andhra Pradesh's urban local body elections was disrupted by incidents of violence in parts of the state on Sunday, November 1, with Pulivendula in YSR Kadapa district emerging as a major trouble spot. Clashes between Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) workers, stone-pelting incidents and an attack on media personnel were reported during polling.
Elections are being held in 92 urban local bodies, including 13 municipal corporations and 79 municipalities and nagar panchayats. Polling began at 7am and is scheduled to continue until 5pm. Eight urban local bodies were excluded from polling after candidates were elected unopposed.
Stone-pelting incidents trigger tension in Pulivendula
Pulivendula witnessed clashes between TDP and YSRCP workers during polling. Stones were reportedly thrown between rival groups at several locations, triggering tension around polling stations.
Kurnool Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Koya Praveen said stones were hurled between political rivals and that police were working to restore normalcy. Around 1,000 police personnel were deployed in Pulivendula, with CCTV cameras and drones being used for surveillance.
Reports also indicated clashes in different wards, with allegations of polling agents being obstructed from entering polling stations and voters facing difficulties in exercising their franchise.
Journalists attacked while covering polling
Media personnel covering the election-related developments in Pulivendula were also targeted.
According to reports, an India Today cameraman's camera was smashed, reporters were assaulted and journalists' mobile phones were snatched during the incident. The attack raised concerns over the safety of journalists covering electoral proceedings.
NTV reporter Suresh, India Today reporter Basheer and cameraman Vijay were among those reported injured in the attack near polling booths.
Former chief minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met the injured journalists and consoled them.
Political tensions surface amid statewide civic polls
Pulivendula, which is represented by Jagan Mohan Reddy, had witnessed violence during the nomination process on October 17 as well.
The police have deployed security personnel across sensitive locations to prevent further disturbances. Statewide, 36,351 police personnel have been deployed at 4,372 locations to oversee election security.

Hey Ram! Save Democracy!
Another dark chapter in the history of democracy!
Broad daylight rigging, polling agents being obstructed and pulled out, and voters openly threatened and prevented from exercising their right to vote, all in the presence of police.
In Pulivendula(ULB), In 70 out of 80 polling booths YSRCP polling agents were not allowed to enter the polling stations; who is to identify the voter?
Apart from my home constituency Pulivendula, similar incidents were also witnessed with respect to the following ULBs - Kadapa, Anantapur, Tirupati, Kurnool, Chittoor, Ongole, Guntur, Nellore, Visakhapatnam (GVMC), Vijayawada, Macherla, Chilakaluripet, Vinukonda, Jammalamadugu, Nandyal, Cheemakurthi, Yemmiganur, Sullurpeta, Palasa, Nayudupeta, Nandigama, Jaggayyapeta, Kuppam, Puttur, Bheemunipatnam, Parvathipuram and others.
Under @ncbn’s watch, Andhra Pradesh’s electoral system is collapsing alarmingly, with democratic institutions totally hijacked. This is no longer an election; it’s only your selection. It is an assault on democracy and a brazen attempt to subvert the people’s mandate!
I specially mention and salute the brave women and dedicated party cadre who stood their ground and fought till the very last minute to save democracy.

“When Jagan was CM, how did every ward in Pulivendula become unanimous? Where was democracy then?” asks Nara Lokesh.
“Today, elections are being held across Andhra Pradesh, from Ichchapuram to Kuppam. Why are law and order problems being reported only in Pulivendula?
We are providing police protection even to candidates filing nominations. Nobody is being stopped.
Jagan flies in from Bengaluru, creates trouble, blames the government, claims victimhood and flies back.
He talks about democracy, but how were elections made unanimous under his government?
I am respecting the election code of conduct. Jagan comes and holds a rally. Does the code not apply to him?”
Nara Lokesh directly holds YS Jagan responsible for the disturbances in Pulivendula.

#WATCH | Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh: On municipal elections, YSRCP chief and former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy says, "There have to be reforms. The process of appointing State Election Commissioners and conducting elections using the state government machinery, especially the state police, needs to be reformed. Elections should not be allowed to take place without live CCTV footage and polling agents in place. These are among the reforms that need to be introduced... Democracy currently exists only on paper. Democracy is no longer prevalent. This is clearly evident from today's election process and the nomination process..."
