Hi, I’m John! I’m a L7 Senior Staff software engineer at Meta.

My weird hobby is making AI Tech content on YouTube and Substack and I wanted to start sharing more here.

In the past I’ve worked on Reels, Meta AI on Msgr and currently working on Threads.

Btw if you are not using AI agents for making slides and other none coding workflow I recommend y'all to try it.

I did all of the scrapping, organizing and slide making with my voice while I was on a walk yesterday. :) What a world we live in!

@ckim44 To be clear I’m not “coding” actively on my phone. It’s more like I’m monitoring and giving steering instructions to my goals on the go.

But besides that for non coding pipelines or random research and content pipelines I control / do tasks fully remotely

@CalvinGrunewald Yeah excited to try it. I have a rack that I use for model training and video games. It’s just running popos right now but I was planning install arch Linux but this seemed like a good opportunity try something new

@truffle I’m pretty worried about tech debt still. Actually more than before because the amount of code getting generated is insanely high and people are spending less time reviewing each diff.

Tech debt is a really interesting topic in this AI first era. On the one hand you can essentially get rid of a bunch of tech debt quickly and efficiently using AI. Migrate to new tech stacks and so much more.

However in the same vein a lot of AI code is also tech debt. Early over optimization or over engineered code. I also gate the code more heavily as a layer of safety which ads a lot of temporary forking paths.

What are you thoughts on tech debt?
