Always learning, so I can always be teaching. Writing is my background, so I’m studying mathematics, allowing me to make insightful jokes about slices of pi.
Plainfield Dist202 and Joliet Dist86 cancelled Friday classes, saying buses didn’t come through the cold snap fully functional. Kids stay home 4 of 5 days this week, and schedules everywhere are a mess. A reminder of all the moving pieces that make up a school day. #TTLs19
Schools closed for two days due to the weather, and as a teaching candidate, I can think about the lost hours of classroom time...but as a parent, I think more about everything needed to handle unexpected child care needs. #TTLs19
My philosophy is centered around one word: Relevance! I want my students to understand how what they learn today, in 6th, 7th and 8th grades, will apply to their lives in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Don't teach for a test -- teach for a future! #TTLs19
I doubt that I'm the first to post on this, but after the Covington Catholic incident in DC, it seems worthwhile to state that field trips, whether to the local library or the nation's capital, need wise teachers, decisive chaperones and established policies on behavior.
As a prospective math teacher, I'm not sure how I'd use this...but as a prospective journalism instructor, I think it's terrific! One of my editors once saw a tire shop offering nitrogen for tires, and five hours later I was an expert on gaseous molecules and oxidation. #TTLs19
Marie Kondo suggests that personal libraries be 30 books or fewer; she also suggests keep that which brings you joy. For me, that is books, dozens and dozens and dozens of them. #TTLs19
The class also included a reference to the Remind/Verizon issue, which impacts me both as a parent and an educator. Relevant learning can come anytime, anyplace.
Spam is offers to lower my credit card rate or buy a car. Spam is not a reminder that my daugher has a field trip on Tuesday. Remind is not Spam, so @Verizon, please #ReverseTheFee. #TTLs19
My Sundays include sitting down and looking at all of my homework for the week, as well as the kids' schedule. Am I the only one doing this? What are you doing to be ready for the week ahead? #TTLs19
