An officer-involved shooting occurred on August 4th, in the 4500 block of East Tropicana Avenue. This shooting left a suspect deceased at the scene. An LVMPD officer was transported to a local hospital, where, despite all life-saving efforts, he passed away.

The officer had been with LVMPD since November 2023. Additional details will be released as they become available.

Our condolences go out to the officer's family. We will support them in every way we can in the days ahead.

This incident highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face in the line of duty.

It is with profound sadness that we honor the life and sacrifice of LVMPD Officer Austin Abdelnabi.

Officer Abdelnabi was a 30-year-old Marine Corps veteran who dedicated his life to serving both his country and his community. After joining the LVMPD in November 2023, he was assigned to the Southeast Area Command, where his infectious laugh, larger-than-life personality, and genuine compassion left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Above all, he cherished his wife, Sage, with whom he shared eight years of marriage.

On August 4, 2026, Officer Abdelnabi was tragically killed in the line of duty while responding to a call involving a person with a gun.

We ask our community to keep Officer Abdelnabi's family, friends, and our entire LVMPD family in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. Officer Austin Abdelnabi's courage, selfless service, and ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We will honor his legacy.

A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s detective was shot while conducting an investigation near Avenue R and 130th Street East in the city of Palmdale.

The detective was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
