But I believe that once licensed to practice medicine as a DO/MD/PA/NP, u legally can claim to be a “specialist” in anything! It’s Hosp, that demand proof of official training, but Many w bc Private Surg Ctrs don’t do this! See #2

The difference IMO, as a proud DO, is attitude, philosophy, and how a Patient is approached & treated. I use my unique DO skills daily to help diagnose & treat the WHOLE person.

@mullane_michael @MarendaBB Simply put, my issue is when an NP IMPLIES their PhD qualifies them as a PHYSICIAN, when it does not. They know exactly what message they r conveying to the patient. It’s purposeful & intended to mask n confuse, to falsely imply they are a Physician. Aren’t they proud 2B a NP?

@yesterdayswmbat @MarendaBB NPs that do primary care aka “Front Lines” and love It are usually great at the everyday & routine stuff. Many do a better job than a DR might. It’s those cases that are NOT routine OR hide inside that assumption that worry me! They’re why DR do YEARS of training, not months.

@Dr_BellaR I’m like working with NP/PAs, but most R good at Red light Green light, ie Know how 2 dx & tx Common prob and deal w common complications. But YEARS of DR training is all about that VAST yellow zone; where dx is tricky and manage is difficult. And that is how it should be IMO 2/2

@Dr_BellaR I am very much AGAINST independent prescribing and case Mgmnt by mid level providers. If that training is enough, then cut Med School to 3 yrs w/optional 1 yr residencies. FULL independent practice rights after med school. That’s close 2 what many NP/PA programs require!! 1/2

@b_regehr @fuzzymittens As a DR n Patient, I often embarrass them via manners. If They come in say hello (if I’m lucky) Ms X and then start in. I stop them and reply 1 it’s Dr X and 2 manners would B2 say name & Service on. When in teaching Hosp, I also ask what yr Resident! I never assume job by looks!

@uknhsgp @Dr_BellaR @TheBMA @BMA_GP I too have caught far too many cancers and major neurological diseases as a community GP that had been seen previously by mid level providers and dismissed. Some had been seen by a specialist!! It’s horrible!! No one is bothering to actually listen to their patients anymore!!
