🚗 Miles fairer with Labour! 🚗

Really pleased to see progress on updating the outdated HMRC mileage rates, unchanged for *15 years!*.

Working people shouldn’t have to pay to drive for work, it hits social care workers especially hard, taking some well below the living wage.

Meanwhile figures from the RAC Foundation (separate charitable org from the breakdown bods) show wholesale petrol was 109.63p/litre yesterday, with pump prices averaging 139.8p/L.

The RAC itself has this nifty graph showing the price breakdown for tax, retailer margin etc.

Great that @JimfromOldham raised the issue of mileage rates (citing Foundation work done by @Tim_Chatterton and the backing of @unisontheunion ) with the chancellor in parliament today & for her to hint at an increase. Fingers crossed. https://t.co/FbfevP9eDY

📢 We’re hiring: Research Manager

Are you interested in the role transport plays in modern society? Do you want to help inform and influence national and local policy on travel, motoring and road use?

The @racfoundation is seeking a Research Manager

We were pleased to have helped @JimfromOldham and @unisontheunion highlight this important issue for so many people. Our latest assessment of what the approved mileage allowance payment (AMAP) might be is here: Reviewing the approved mileage allowance payment @Tim_Chatterton

[Jim McMahon OBE MP @JimfromOldham]

For 14 years the Tories failed to take action on mileage rates, with working people left paying to work.

@uklabour is the party of working people. That is why I’m calling for government to instruct HMRC to finally refresh the mileage rate and show working people that they have a government on their side.

Pleased to be involved with this project. All about understanding real-world transport strategies rather than developing ivory tower theories. @Tim_Chatterton

France is building 300,000 new homes annually, by using tram networks to unlock new homes. A model Britain has yet to master. Our latest report with @thomasableman (Freewheeling) and @CBTransport takes senior politicians and policymakers behind the scenes in France to uncover the structural, funding, and leadership secrets that could finally help the UK build at scale. Discover what they learned about creating "gentle density" and why tram-enabled housing might be closer to reality than you think with our full report 'Towns and Trams' launching today https://t.co/iBdEVYUlwp

We have updated the @racfoundation #GreenFleetIndex to the end of 2024

5.3% of car miles are zero emission vehicles (which are only 3.8% of the fleet)

EVs now neck and & with diesels in annual mileage terms

Our view is that an eyesight check should be required every ten years when a driving licence is renewed. For many people waiting until 70 might be way too late.

@robhull83 demonstrates that there is 'literally no type of vehicle that someone won't steal"

[RAC Foundation @racfoundation]

These are the key characteristics to help differentiate those types:
• Width
• Traffic flow
• Traffic type
• Speed limit
• Gradient
• Markings
• Location
• Surrounding land use
• Population density
• Remoteness

We often think of a rural road as a winding lane but it is essentially any road outside an urban area and that can include dual carriageways and motorways. We have tried to identify the different types of 'rural road' in this work:
https://t.co/vImAxnC4YI

[Cycle With Confidence @CycleConfidence]

@Das_Pig @jenkszy @racfoundation It is correct. Larger % of collisions in towns/cities, but the fatality % is higher in rural areas. Faster cars (excluding this one) rurally, no pavements, narrow roads etc etc
