British artist, creating sculptures and drawings celebrating strength and freedom. Working for change through both public/private commissions, & collaborations
@Romha12@nadiainitiative@NadiaMuradBasee @ABaerbock @DorothyEstrada Dear @Romha12 I am currently working on the first global memorial for survivors of sexual violence in conflict. It is survivor centred and I am aiming to make it as inclusive as possible. Would you like to join us in collaboration in representing Tigray?
It is a real honour to have been asked by @nadiainitiative to sculpt a memorial to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the Yazidi genocide which is coming up this August. This is the preliminary drawing for the memorial called “Scales of Justice”.
Methra, the little girl standing next to me, broke my heart today. She lost all of her family members in the Genocide. Her parents never returned. Some of her siblings did. She is supported by her uncle now in ruins of town of Sibaye. Only 400 families returned there. The site where we are standing is actually between two mass graves which are still not exhumed. Only when you come to land of Genocide, you truly see how deep the wound is.
Today the British government formally acknowledges the ISIS attacks on my Yazidi community in 2014 was genocide. Thousands died, thousands more were enslaved and so many of us are displaced and traumatized. I hope this step by @tariqahmadbt and @FCDOGovUK brings us closer to justice. https://t.co/u2GKWMlABL

Addressing the root causes of #humantrafficking and recognizing the nexus between conflict and trafficking and sexual violence is key to #EndHumanTrafficking.
