🚀 SpaceFields Showcases Solid Rocket Propulsion Portfolio at Swavlamban 2026
📌 WHAT: SpaceFields Pvt Ltd exhibits its solid rocket propulsion and energetics portfolio — aerospike engines, RATO boosters, missile igniters, pyro devices and rocket motors
🏢 WHO: SpaceFields Pvt Ltd (Bengaluru, IISc-incubated)
📅 WHEN: Swavlamban 2026, Booth No. 86, 25–26 October 2026
🎯 WHAT IS THIS?
SpaceFields designs and manufactures turnkey solid rocket propulsion systems and energetics for aerospace, defence and space customers — sub-orbital, orbital and tactical applications, plus pyro systems. Core technology areas: solid propulsion systems, aerospace structures/avionics, missile systems, and in-house R&D/testing.
By the numbers (company's own figures):
• $6.4M+ (~₹54 Cr) funding raised to date
• 30 patents filed & published
• 5 iDEX challenges won (DDP, MoD)
• 45,000 sq ft R&D facility
🧠 OUR ANALYSIS
These figures hold up well against independent reporting — a recent profile put funding at ~₹53.5 crore and the Bengaluru facility at the same 45,000 sq ft, though patents were reported as 32 filed/11 granted rather than the booth's "30 filed & published" — close, likely just an update lag.
❓ WHAT WE DON'T KNOW
Which specific defence platforms currently use SpaceFields' igniters, RATO boosters, or smoke generators isn't disclosed publicly.

🚀 D-Propulse Showcases Rotating Detonation Engine Concepts at Swavlamban 2026
📌 WHAT: D-Propulse Aerospace exhibits its Rotating Detonation Engine (RDE) hardware and two concept weapon systems at Swavlamban 2026
🏢 WHO: D-Propulse Aerospace (IIT Madras-incubated startup)
📅 WHEN: 25–26 October 2026, Booth No. 85, Swavlamban 2026
🎯 WHAT IS THIS?
Swavlamban is the Indian Navy's flagship annual innovation and indigenisation seminar. D-Propulse used the platform to display its Rotating Detonation Engine (RDE) — a propulsion technology using continuous detonation waves instead of conventional combustion, offering higher thermodynamic efficiency and more thrust for a given size — along with two concept systems, described on the company's own exhibition posters as:
COUNTER-UAS MICRO-SAM
"A compact, rapid-response air defence concept designed to address evolving aerial threats while improving cost-effectiveness for the defender."
• Compact footprint
• Rapid-response capability
• Modular architecture
• RDRE-powered
• Cost-effective deployment
AFFORDABLE HIGH-SUPERSONIC ANTI-SHIP MISSILE
"An Indigenous high-speed strike platform concept integrating advanced propulsion, aerodynamic efficiency, and scalable system architecture."
• Advanced propulsion technology
• High-speed flight capability
• Indigenous development
• Scalable system architecture
Both are explicitly labelled "Systems Under Development" on the company's own display material.
🧠 OUR ANALYSIS
D-Propulse has real, independently-verified propulsion progress behind this — the company has already demonstrated a 5kN-class air-breathing RDE prototype at a government facility (reported July 2026) and hit TRL-5 on an RDE with an aerospike nozzle (March 2026). The two weapon concepts shown here build on that propulsion base, but are design concepts, not tested or fielded systems yet — the company's own wording ("concept," "systems under development") makes that clear.
❓ WHAT WE DON'T KNOW
No performance figures (range, speed, warhead size) for either the Micro-SAM or the anti-ship missile concept, and no confirmed customer, funding, or timeline for either moving beyond the concept stage.

🚤 Matangi — India's Autonomous Surface Vessel on Display at Swavlamban 2026
Why is it called "Matangi"?
Named after one of Hinduism's ten Mahavidyas — a fierce goddess linked to mastery over obstacles. No official confirmation from Sagar Defence/Navy on the exact reasoning, though.
📌 WHAT: Matangi, an autonomous surface vessel (ASV/USV) by Sagar Defence Engineering, on display at the Indian Navy's Swavlamban 2026 innovation seminar
🏢 WHO: Sagar Defence Engineering, Indian Navy
📅 WHEN: 26–27 October 2026, Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt
🎯 WHAT IS THIS?
An autonomous vessel flagged off by Rajnath Singh in October 2024, built to navigate and avoid obstacles entirely on its own using indigenous AI/ML software — fusing cameras, sonar, radar, LiDAR and GPS. Satellite-controlled as primary, with RF fallback from a warship/helicopter.
🔍 KEY QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
• What's different about it? Its one solid, verified differentiator: a ~1,500km fully autonomous voyage (Mumbai→Tuticorin via Karwar, under Navy's "Sagarmala Parikrama" mission) using India's own navigation software — nothing else about it stands out yet
• Is India the only country doing this? No. USA (Sea Hunter — 40m, 10,000nmi range, unarmed ASW role), China (JARI USV — 58m, 42kt, VLS missile cells + torpedo tubes) and Ukraine (MAGURA V5 — has sunk a corvette, a landing ship and a patrol ship, shot down helicopters/jets) are all ahead on scale, weapons or combat record. India is a late entrant, still at trials stage
• Tech specs: Length 12–13m (sources vary). Speed, range/endurance and payload capacity are not publicly disclosed anywhere found
• How many inducted? Zero confirmed. A 12-boat swarm order got Acceptance of Necessity (a procurement go-ahead, not delivery) at Swavlamban 2.0, Oct 2023 — no unit confirmed in active service yet
• What arms can it carry? Only one confirmed weapon: a remote-operated 12.7mm gun, on a separate weaponised variant ("Mata Matangi"). The display/voyage unit is unarmed
• Sole purpose? None — it's multi-role: coastal patrol, ISR, sea-lane monitoring, cargo transport; the armed variant adds strike/swarm capability
• Can it be carried on a ship/carrier? No source confirms this. It self-transits from port under its own power; a different Sagar Defence product (a spotter drone) has been carrier-tested off INS Vikrant, but that's not Matangi
🧠 OUR ANALYSIS
Calling Matangi "India's own Corsair" or "more potent than any USV in water" doesn't hold up against the record above — it hasn't been reported in any armed engagement, while Ukraine's MAGURA has sunk multiple warships and China's JARI already carries anti-ship missiles.
❓ WHAT WE DON'T KNOW
Exact speed/range/payload specs, firm induction timeline, and whether carrier-launch is even a design goal.

Post 2 on #Swavlamban2026.
Some amazing aviation innovation being undertaken by @XinfinitiA under @India_iDEX for @indiannavy.
HEFS (Helicopter Emergency Floatation System), the first fully designed & made-in-India CEMILAC-compliant safety-critical float for Naval Chetak (also later aimed at ALH) is ready for wide implementation after successfully completing development & trials in record time. This would probably be the fastest case in aviation. I personally have never come across CEMILAC clearance so fast. The stall allotted was number 1 & the place assigned for the display right under the banner which read ‘Success Stories’! That itself gives you an idea about the current status of induction.
Another interesting ongoing case by the same startup is the NCAS (Naval Chetak Autonomous System) via M2UC manned-to-uncrewed conversion. Smart way to extend life of legacy platforms with autonomy, ISR/ASW capability and lower risk. Would also be useful for @adgpi, @IAF_MCC & @IndiaCoastGuard. With unmanned systems many limitations of night flying, high altitude & even payloads can be overcome.

(BTW, someone had commented, rather sarcastically, on my article on the naval helicopter history saying I should also check why the unmanned Chetak is not moving. I did. It is)
