@AmandaSteff2 Definitely think that land links is one of the ones I’ll be using more of in the classroom and through units of work. I love how it can connect students to the environment.
@ClaireGriff97 Such a great find! I think newspapers can be a great resource that is often overlooked, this has even reminded me that we should take time once in a while to flick through as you never know what valuable lessons or resources you can find.
@emily3237690 Thankyou for sharing this! I’ll be using this for my unit now too for regeneration and restoration of water ways! Native plants next to a valuable water source is important for the sustainability of the environment and to prevent some pollution into the water.
@Jeremy19112 That’s such a great resource that I haven’t come across before! What a great find, what will you be taking away from it? I love the ideas they have about improving water/saving water
The best way of solving stormwater (lowest-investment / real-results ratio) is to look at how forests, grasslands, wetlands and rivers handle storms and see where we can use their solutions to hold on to nutrients... [link] https://t.co/cp4uLcLSWi
Pollution of our waterways is an issue we’ve been facing for a while, do you think that schools should be coming up with ways to help battle this issue? Let me know what you guys think and if you had any other ideas down in the comments, can’t wait to hear what you have to say
@EmilyPatience3 That sounds so interesting, is there any chance you would be able to expand on this as I would love to know more about the connection with sustainability!
@EmilyPatience3 De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats (1985) can easily be applied in project based thinking! It’s a great to use in planning in a detailed and cohesive manner.
Lester and Clyde is a great book to create discussion about sustainability in our water ways in the classroom, it’s a great for stages 1 through to 3 and has many great ideas and links to pollution and the importance of protecting our waterways. Definitely one to keep in mind.
Hunter water have many great resources regarding catchment care! They range from water testing kits, various classroom resources and pollution within the water! Definitely caters to many different topics such as protection of waterways and sustainability! https://t.co/eFAgGDuuAC
This YouTube clip is a great example of a restoration project of waterways in NSW. It’s definitely a way to introduce the idea of helping the local waterways to students in the classroom, get the students engaged and excited about helping the community! https://t.co/VsBxEXFEBz
Did you know that the area of land adjacent to a waterway (such as a lake) is known as the riparian zone? When the vegetation in this area is damaged or removed, it impacts the water quality! These areas help to reduce pollutant loads by filtering stormwater runoff.
When mowing your lawn this spring, summer, and fall remember NOT to blow your grass clippings into to the road as it can clog storm water drains causing a water to back up on the roadway. The picture shown below is a perfect example of what NOT to do.
Reminder: only rain goes in the drain. Don't dump anything down storm drains, and be sure to clear away leaves and debris. Any pollutants that enter the storm drains exit into local water bodies— so keep them clean.
Landcare Lake Macquarie have great resources and information on how we can protect our waterways! They have many great resources and ways we can help protect our community assets such as Lake Macquarie and surrounding wetlands!

@EmilyPatience3 On prac, we used the book Lester and Clyde to talk to the kids about sustainability! It has so many different talking points, and could definitely relate to other topics such as clean water too! Very versatile, definitely another one to consider! #UoNTeach
With the country currently practicing social distancing, using platforms like Twitter to access PD opportunities has become more relevant than ever. The PD Twitter can offer is not only immediate and personalised (Carpenter, 2014), it can be done while social isolating! #UoNTeach
@SophiavanCamp2 I love this idea so much! It’s interactive and tangible which is a great learning experience for all ages, would even think some adults need to use this too! Could extend the creativity even more have the kids draw and create the pictures used!
I think a great way of educating students and getting them involved with goal 6 is by getting them to create their own water filter! What does everyone else think? #UoNTeach
