Lots of good advice for the UN on #Sudan. "It is hard to see the UN leading efforts to stop the war, given the number of powerful foreign states backing the belligerents, but it should.. raise global awareness of the urgent need to end the fighting." https://t.co/HRqGujHg19
Sudan is one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. Canada is leading internationally in its response.
Today, I asked @randeepssarai about our latest efforts. Over $120M in new funding for life-saving aid will support the most vulnerable and help advance a path to stability.
Canada is appalled by findings from the United Nations Human Rights report that the RSF’s assault on El Fasher left more than 6,000 people dead in three days. These atrocities are war crimes, reflecting a pattern of grave abuses that is deepening Sudan’s humanitarian crisis. Civilians must be protected and perpetrators held accountable under international law.

Very proud of how our first advocacy day went in Ottawa. The pain of Sudanese Canadians snd their families should not continue to go unnoticed and ignored!
Thank you to @nccm for their valuable support. We couldn’t have done it without you!
The Sudanese Canadian Community Association (SCCA), with the support of the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), spent the past two days—Monday in Ottawa and Tuesday in virtual meetings—advocating for meaningful, urgent action on Sudan.
Our delegation met with officials across party lines to highlight the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian crisis and the deep impact the conflict continues to have on Sudanese Canadians and their families.
Special thanks to the MPs and officials who met with us: @KayabagaArielle , @Rob_Oliphant , @coteau , @SalmaZahid15 , @iamIqraKhalid , @SameerZuberi, @ElizabethMay, @RunChiNguyenRun, @ScottReidCPC, @JennyKwanBC, @garnettgenius, @AmiraElghawaby, @taleeb and @kbardeesy — your time, leadership, and commitment are truly appreciated.
Our key asks:
1️⃣ Increased funding to trusted humanitarian partners on the ground in Sudan to address the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.
2️⃣ Re-prioritization of Sudanese refugee and family reunification pathways, addressing devastating delays that continue to put lives at risk.
3️⃣ Urgent action to stop the flow of Canadian-manufactured weapons that continue to appear in the hands of actors committing atrocities.
We look forward to continuing these critical conversations and working alongside federal partners to meaningfully support Sudanese Canadians and all families deeply affected by this war.

@IrwinCotler@mutasimali3@yonahdiamond "The time for action for Sudan is right now, as the situation has reached an international emergency. As parliamentarians, you have the power to take a host of practical measures." - @yonahdiamond
@QaanitahHunter Also worth asking: why has SA government and SA media largely ignored Sudan, even after evidence of genocide and war crimes over past 2 years? A decade ago, Thabo Mbeki was actively involved in Sudan as an AU peace negotiator. Why so little SA involvement now?
🚨US intelligence agencies confirm that UAE has redoubled its weapons supply to the RSF this year. From me: “The war would be over if not for the UAE. The only thing keeping RSF in this war is the overwhelming military support they’re getting from the UAE."https://t.co/D8LZ98p9Yd
