After years of providing care to patients, I have a passion for creating a better system by collaborating with other healthcare professionals and consumers.
Probably the best hidden secret in modern medicine - poor blood glucose control predicts risk of cardiovascular disease.
But since it doesn't fit the lipid hypothesis it has no hope of being taught in medical schools around the world.
So it's usually mentioned only in passing as: "We know persons with diabetes are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease. So that's why it's crucial that they be placed on high doses of statins for life".
Better advice would be to reverse the type 2 diabetes with appropriate dietary interventions. @lowcarbGP@LDLSkeptic
When a doctor tries to get an appt for a family member in the hospital where they practice & spends 36 mins on the phone only to hear the next available appt is in 2024…this system is broken. #MedTwitter
Colleague: Hey, Panagis, there’s a Greek food truck on campus. Do you know them?
Me: Look, just because I’m Greek doesn’t mean that I know every Greek in Balti—(looks out window)
Me: Oh, that’s my cousin.
I have been thinking about how much farmers and doctors have in common and the shared goals between #regenerativeagriculture and #lifestylemedicine how about we join up a bit?
Why do people on a low carb diet eat only dark chocolate? Because milk chocolate has LOADS of sugar in it Equivalent to FOURTEEN teaspoons of sugar per 100g 😱Look how the sugar content drops as it gets darker https://t.co/qppACuuhPE @DiabetesUK
@LindaGalliher@bigfatsurprise@USRightToKnow This has been going on for a long time, and to some extent it makes sense. Food science and biology are related. It's probably not much different from physicians and pharmacists and drug companies. In fact, I think there's a lot more money in those relationships.
@bigfatsurprise@USRightToKnow I don't have a problem with the dairy organization, although I wish both the dairy assn and the dietetics assn would stop promoting low fat flavored milk for children. That just doesn't make sense.
Some of the pressure on primary care is due to increasing demand from the epidemic of obesity, #T2D & metabolic syndrome We should invest far more in effective prevention of disease not wait till people are chronically sick
Watch the creatinine(kidneys)fall
Love being a low carb doctor 😊

1950s Pete Ahrens, MD observed that liver-made-fat (Triglycerides) rises on low fat diets - falls on higher fat & was related to the quantity, quality of carbs in the diet; however, high quality research like his has been hidden away for decades! Why?
