On the first date with my husband, I noticed he had a Louis Vuitton wallet. They’re not “that” expensive (probably $300 back then), but the last guy I’d dated was offensively cheap, so I thought “okay, this guy is willing to buy nice things sometimes.” A green flag after dating a guy who wouldn’t pay $8 for a margarita (in Dallas!) and split the bill on Valentine’s Day 😂
Turns out he found it on the ground walking home from work one day. He immediately tried to find the owner. Couldn’t get them to answer their phone. Even went so far as to mail the wallet back to the address on the driver’s license. A few weeks later it came back to him Return to Sender. Stuck it in a drawer for a few months in case the owner contacted him.
He consulted his dad throughout the process, and eventually, his dad said “You really tried. The wallet came back to you. I think it’s ok for it to be yours now.”
Ultimately that little wallet became a symbol of an even greener flag: a man who has integrity even in the small things.
