@TeeCGGaming I feel like this statement is often parroted and it’s frankly not true in modern MTG. While I do think this statement had a lot of truth to it in older Magic, with the amount of utility lands and filtering we have in modern mtg, lands aren’t just a “resource system” anymore.
@darkvulpine I don’t think there’s mass hating on RB, a lot of it is just in response to some people in the RB space just being loud and annoying about “omg my prizing”. A lot of it is also just uninformed nonsense like that Rath kid, where he just made himself look like an idiot.
@toothymtg1 Other TCG players think because we as a community get caught up in meme-ing our own game that we don’t love it. No, we understand our game’s flaws and love it in spite of those flaws, and if you’re not part of the community, you can’t shit talk OUR game.
@Drisoth Objectively, Standard has easily the best meta. There’s a lot of senseless noise from people who don’t play the format about it, but Standard has been my go to. You can’t go wrong with either Standard or Modern though tbh, you can also compromise and play Standard on Arena
@ChironTheMage@fireshoes I mean, there’s an easy answer to this whether you want to admit it or not; legacy/vintage have small dedicated playerbases that get absolutely dwarfed by the amount of people that play modern/standard. It’s not in their best interest to make changes to modern during RC season.
@redman2408 I’m assuming we’re talking in respects to the current meta, hence my comment. Current slop piles in Yugioh need a perfect combination of interaction to be able to stop from setting up what equates an FTK board rn, and even then a half board is still hell to break currently.
@nsflgsliger@tronisbad@UsagiKaede1 Correct, and the One Piece IP is MUCH bigger than the league IP ever has been or ever will be, so the delusion in his post is insane.
@tronisbad@UsagiKaede1 What big 3 spot is it threatening to take? The league IP means the most in Korea, and Korean market was up for the taking TCG wise. The league IP will never be as big as Yugioh or Pokemon in Japan, or MTG in North America
@LambGrand Not as much as you would expect in the current climate. During the peak of the Pokémon boom, you could hold ETB’s/booster boxes for like 6 months and double your money pretty easily.
@xtracombatphase It forces WotC to adapt these IP’s in unique interesting ways, which leads to more interesting, innovative card design. Examples of this are all the element bends in Avatar, summons in FF. It also allows for more sets a year which I prefer. Standard during WAR to VOW was terrible
@Chord_O_Calls Yugioh was like this for the longest time also, since for a lot of Yugioh players, no other tcg scratched that itch. But after so many years of Konami mismanaging, things have started to change.
@MarkDizon@IamHakuzho Two completely different scenarios here. Bandai’s business practices in tcg’s have never relied on a single ip to carry them. In that same sense, Bandai doesn’t need OP, but they’ll for sure cash out on it as long as they can. This is the opposite of Riftbound, if Riftbound falls
@MillThat It’s such a silly take, but it proves the smoke and mirrors that best of creates is successful at shaping the perception of your average onlooker.
@lain816460@bashmcalister Same fundamentals that allow the majority of non graded Pokemon chases to not go to 10k+. People have this misunderstanding that a healthy market has multiple 5 figure cards in it, when in reality that’s the definition of a bubble market.
@theodore_jung 100% this is something that people seem to either be in denial of or just don’t want to hear. I saw somebody unironically say that 10 years ago the majority of the community was made up of comp players, which just isn’t true across any TCG. The majority are casual and that’s ok
@darkvulpine It doesn’t, but we also need to come together as a community and stop bashing one another. People crapping on Commander players isn’t going to make any of those new players want to play 60 card formats. People ignore that the reason these players enjoy Commander is the community
