The ancient County of #Westmorland is a mountainous shire, with some of the grandest scenery of the land. It is bounded to the North and West by Cumberland, to the South and South-West by Lancashire and to the East by Yorkshire and County Durham.
The #HistoricCounties are the geography of the United Kingdom.
The @ONS explicitly recommend them as such.
Far easier to describe geographical locations by use of geography, rather than admin zones, which frequently change.
Perhaps @OrdnanceSurvey could follow this lead? 🤔

Our counties existed for a thousand years before the advent of local government in 1889.
Counties are not (and never have been!) defined by the presence or absence of a council.

Westmorland’s flag was registered in 2011.
The county has the dubious distinction of being one of the least recognised.
