My former colleague @TulsiGabbard is spot on when she warns about the dangers of nuclear war. I wonder if she can convince her fellow political elites and her boss to support proven tactics to reduce nuclear threats: diplomacy and arms control.
I recently visited Hiroshima, and stood at the epicenter of a city scarred by the unimaginable horror caused by a single nuclear bomb dropped in 1945. What I saw, the stories I heard, and the haunting sadness that remains, will stay with me forever.
Calls for increasing spending on nuclear weapons is a predictable reaction from people who benefit from nuke production. Why aren't we asking how even more nukes improve our deterrent at all when we already have more than enough to deter - might there be a better approach?
Air Force Secretary Kendall discussed deterrence with me in late March. The Ukraine war was just a month old, but he noted danger of escalation: “We’re dealing with a nuclear-armed state; you cannot ignore that as you make decisions about how to respond.” https://t.co/SMFX2v0rH4
@tribelaw might your comments in @BostonGlobe about North Carolina voters' challenge to Cawthorn's ineligibilty to stand for election under Sec 3 of 14th Amendment to the Constitution apply to any future Trump candidacy, and if so, are there plans for a challenge in such an event
Of the existential threats to humanity (pandemic, climate change & nuclear catastrophe), a nuclear disaster from mistake or miscalculation can end the world as we know it in 30 minutes or less. We can do something to lower the risk that Trump has exacerbated over 3 years- VOTE
Executive Director @RepTierney joins with 39 scientists, including Nobel Prize winning physicists and chemists, in urging the Senate to pass @SenMarkey’s PLANET Act and ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty immediately in a letter in @ScienceMagazine. https://t.co/iAhdH7p9Jt
On July 17, 1945, the day after the Trinity nuclear test, nuclear physicist & Council founder Leo Szilard wrote a petition to President Truman urging him to consider the moral responsibilities of atomic use and to not use an atomic bomb against Japan before asking for surrender.
Unidentified stormtroopers. Unmarked cars. Kidnapping protesters and causing severe injuries in response to graffiti.
These are not the actions of a democratic republic.
@DHSgov’s actions in Portland undermine its mission.
Trump & his stormtroopers must be stopped.
We are mourning the loss of Bruce Blair, a world-renowned scholar on nuclear weapons. He was a passionate & unapologetic advocate for their elimination, and he improved a necessary debate about our future. Our deepest condolences to his loved ones & colleagues at @globalzero.
.@abby_pokraka in her hometown paper, @capecodtimes:
"As we mark the 75th year of the nuclear age, it’s worth reflecting on Cape Cod’s nuclear history in a world still rife with nuclear dangers."

This no doubt reflects the feelings of any of us so honored as to serve with John Lewis, and call him colleague and friend. The nation will surely miss him.
“Rep, You should not be pleased! The waivers were designed to make it harder for Iran to develop nuclear capacity. The Trump Admin would like to goad Iran into negative response then claim any agreement with Iran never would last. Don’t enable Trump to make America less secure.
I am pleased that Secretary Pompeo has declined to extend waivers for countries working with Iran on civilian nuclear projects. This is an important step to combating Russian and Chinese enabling of Iran’s nuclear program. (1/2)

Crisis tends to always lead to bigger government.
@RepTierney tells @SlaterRadio America was fed inaccurate data and worst case scenarios, which we then created policies around.
What happened to “flatten the curve” anyway?
Rep. @GilCisnerosCA is a champion for progressive foreign policy who was elected in Orange County in the 2018 "blue wave." But he's at risk of losing his seat to a hawk. Learn more: https://t.co/c8okbyrmrq
A reminder for the Vice President going forward:
Congress is a co-equal branch of government.
Congress is a co-equal branch of government.
Congress is a co-equal branch of government.
Congress is a co-equal branch of government.
.@vp has got to be kidding! I was there when he spoke on the House floor claiming that weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq when the whole world knew it was a lie. (THREAD)

Despite his disregard for his obligations as a Congressman, Pence failed upwards into the second highest office in the land. If he thinks the Trump Administration is not obligated to share “sensitive” information with Congress, then he is not worthy of the office he holds.
