About 10 years ago, a patient who's aorta I fixed donated £20,000 to us via @Barts_Charity. Since then this money has supported nurses in getting advanced degrees & training, junior doctors in education and presenting their own studies, pump primed research programmes, supported engagement activites and some of this work now has true national impact for patients. The donor always wanted to remain anonymous but we are eternally grateful. Even small amounts of money can go a long long way. 🙏

Secondarily, they inform underlying health status (coronaries, CKD, sarcopenia) and are an unscheduled health screen.

What can go wrong with #ECPR?
🩸 cannulae: exit site bleeding, limb ischemia, dislodgement, thrombosis & trauma (vessel + tissues)
🩸circuit: hemolysis, thrombi/fibrin, hypothermia
🩸 physiology: drainage failure, LV distension/thrombi, differential oxygenation, CPR injuries
