A young baboon died just two days after entering a Columbia University laboratory in New York, raising serious concerns about the treatment of animals used in scientific research.
They're not pests. They're little lives with beating hearts, just trying to make it through another day.
Please be gentle with pigeons. They deserve kindness, too.

#ThoughtForTheDay “If you don’t like pictures of animal cruelty being posted on social media, you need to help stop the cruelty, not the pictures. You should be bothered that it’s happening, not that you saw it.” Marie Sarantakis.
Ryder the horse was forced to work in scathing heat to pull rich tourists around in Central Park. He collapsed, and the police/workers responded by yanking his collar and yelling at him to get back up. (Make sure to turn on sound.)
Partly due to public outcry over stories like Ryder's, every NYC mayor in recent history has promised to ban this vile business.
Every one has also broken that promise.
Zohran is going to be the next mayor, and he, too, has promised to ban horse carriages. For Ryder, let's make sure he keeps his promise. (H/t @nyclass for this video and their inspiring work to defend horses)

“And eventually you simply stop looking at those products as food, because they weren’t meant to be food, they were individuals, who deserved better than to be bred for death just so that our palates could enjoy the taste of their flesh or secretions.
Good news. Greenland’s parliament has voted unanimously to halt all seabed mining until 2029, when the ban can be renewed. The decision is being hailed as a slap in the face for Donald Trump

🦌⚠️ As the clocks go back this weekend, please watch out for deer on the roads!
With the evenings getting darker earlier, deer can be harder to spot, especially at dusk & dawn when they’re most active.
Even a little extra care behind the wheel can make a life-saving difference.

🐘 Is 53 years of isolation cause for celebration?
For Miyako's 53rd birthday, Utsunomiya Zoo has announced two events:
📅 24 October: A lecture by Sayuri Sakamoto, owner of Ichihara Elephant Kingdom.
📅 25 October: Miyako's birthday celebration.
Born in Thailand in 1973, Miyako was brought to Utsunomiya Zoo as a baby that same year, where she has lived alone ever since. 53 long, lonely years.
While the zoo prepares to celebrate her birthday, the fundamental question remains: When will Miyako's need for elephant companionship and appropriate living conditions finally be addressed?
