Three university students and a Belgian national have been arrested this morning as they marched to the Chinese Embassy in Kololo, Kampala, to deliver a petition to the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda. The petition urges the Chinese government to stop its state-owned China National Offshore Oil Company from funding the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP). The protesters expressed concerns that the construction of the 1,443-kilometer pipeline will harm biodiversity, destroy Uganda's tourism potential, and lead to other environmental disasters.

Nothing breaks the heart seeing these youth at #EntebbeAirport daily bein "exported" in droves as modern day slaves to foreign countries aware of dangers that lurk. A chat with them indicates majority haven't been out of their home districts nor on a plane. Better to die trying!
