Great article by Kerry J. Byrne. Smithsonian Institution senior linguist Ives Goddard researched the origins of the REDSKINS name and concluded, in summary, that “the actual origin of the word is entirely benign.”
Goddard found that “redskin” did not originate in English or another European language. Rather, the English term derived from Native American expressions combining the color red with words for flesh, skin, and man.
Those who pushed the narrative that the name was inherently racist failed to do the historical research, and much of the media repeated that narrative without adequately examining the history.
The result? An important Native American figurehead and his legacy were canceled in the process.
The history deserves a second look. @Commanders

This is the pattern in American public health.
They keep info amongst themselves (and privately make decisions for their own families with info that they don't allow us to have), even though they work for us.
Thousands of examples. One of them: govt secretly met w/ vaccine makers at the beginning of the autism epidemic when the govts' own study midstream clearly linked childhood vaccines to "the entire range of neurodisorders."
One scientific adviser present said he personally wasn't going to allow his new grandson to get the regular vaccines other babies were being given.
Then, after the secret meeting, the public health authorities told the rest of there was nothing to be concerned over. It was just a conspiracy theory.
Then, they secretly paid autism claims in vaccine court and had the landmark case sealed so nobody would know (so they hoped)... and they publicly continued to state that parents who thought vaccines caused autism were crazy, and that the link had been debunked.
America already made daylight saving time permanent once. In December 1973, 79% of Americans supported it and Nixon signed it into law. By February 1974, eight weeks into the experiment, support had collapsed to 42%. The policy never changed. Winter arrived.
Sunrise in Washington DC came at 8:27am. Kids left for school in total darkness, carrying flashlights and wearing reflective tape. When Congress moved to repeal, members cited the deaths of eight Florida schoolchildren in the first weeks of the change.
The energy case collapsed too. The whole point was the oil embargo, and the Department of Transportation concluded the fuel savings were too small to matter. Ten months after signing it, Congress repealed it and Ford put the country back on standard time.
There's a mechanism that makes this cycle repeat: permanent DST is only ever voted on when the sun is up. Polls run in the abstract, votes happen in warm months, and the benefit, a free hour of evening light, is easy to imagine year-round. The cost is concentrated in about 10 weeks of dark winter mornings and only becomes real after implementation. So the policy polls beautifully right up until January.
Today's vote happened in July. The 1974 law passed in December, right before the exact winter that killed it. If this clears the Senate, the first real test arrives in January 2027, when sunrise in Indianapolis comes after 9am.
Sleep researchers have watched this loop for 50 years, which is why the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the AMA, and the National Sleep Foundation all back the opposite reform, permanent standard time. Congress just picked the one version of clock reform America has already tried, hated, and repealed.
DEBUNKED: National Safety Council, National Sleep Foundation, and dozens more oppose permanent DST and endorse permanent Standard Time. Permanent DST’s 9am sunrises and chronic sleep deprivation dramatically increase fatal crashes:
“We found a very clear pattern. People in time zones that don’t have enough sun in the morning die [in automobile accidents] at higher rates, more than 20%, which is mind-boggling.” —Jeff Gentry PhD, Eastern New Mexico University

Testosterone is made from cholesterol.
Oestrogen is made from cholesterol.
Cortisol is made from cholesterol.
Vitamin D is made from cholesterol.
Bile acids that digest fat are made from cholesterol.
Progesterone, which sustains pregnancy, is made from cholesterol.
Every cell membrane in your body contains cholesterol.
Every nerve is insulated by myelin, which is largely cholesterol.
Every memory you form requires cholesterol to build the synapse that holds it.
Your brain is 60% fat, mostly cholesterol.
Breast milk is rich in cholesterol because infant brains cannot develop without it.
Nature, given the job of designing the perfect first food, put cholesterol in it.
When you eat less of it, the liver makes more.
Because the body knows it cannot function without it.
We declared war on cholesterol in 1977.
Testosterone in men has dropped 25%.
Vitamin D deficiency is now endemic.
One in three adults over fifty is on a statin lowering the cholesterol the body is desperately trying to maintain.
Depression rates have tripled.
Infertility rates have doubled.
The war is going well.
@JustinReady And then The Sierra Club turns around and sues municipalities for the environmental damage the policies they pushed creates, thereby “double dipping”
The Ivanpah solar power facility in California is shutting down next year.
The 2 BILLION dollar blight built on 3,500 pristine acres of Mojave desert has been responsible for incinerating more than 60,000 birds, created TWICE the pollution of a typical power plant, created 86 jobs instead of the promised 2000, and will abandon 173,500 thermal collectors in the environment they were trying to save
If you consume 100x as much fiction as you do history, you will subconsciously derive your beliefs from fiction. This is a well-studied finding in psychology called “source confusion”: you remember things you “learned” long after you’ve forgotten where you learned them. This applies to moral “lessons” derived from fiction as well. In fact, this is the entire reason we read morality tales with talking animals to our children: we know they will internalize the “lessons” in those stories, even though the stories are fake. After a lifetime of consuming such made up stories, you end up in a state I call “fiction-brained”: your beliefs about the world are subconsciously based primarily on movies, novels, etc. The only way to combat this is to consume much much less fiction and to interact much much more with the real world and to consume history, biography, etc to unlearn your false beliefs. You are not immune to propaganda.
Destroying Maryland
House Bill 1036 and Senate Bill 931 are nothing short of a war declaration against rural Maryland.
Under these bills, the Public Service Commission—an entity whose members earn over $207,000 per year and answer only to the Governor at the end of their terms—has been legislatively given carte blanche to preempt county zoning, effectively deciding where solar arrays may sprout like so many metallic weeds.
The urban progressives claim they need 18,000 to 30,000 acres for solar.
But they’ve seized the authority to control far more—5% of all Priority Preservation Area farmland, which in Caroline County alone equals 8,800 acres. Across the Shore? Tens of thousands of acres.
Meanwhile, a state bill to prohibit solar eminent domain was not only killed—it was opposed by the Maryland Energy Administration.
The solar energy companies are offering seductively obscene high prices for leasing farmland – amounts that farmers will find hard to refuse and with no fear that local county governments can enforce their zoning laws or comprehensive plans.

Simple. When the left decided to abandon the working class for thirty pieces of silver, they needed an excuse, something they could pivot to in lieu of unions, economic growth, and the dignity of labor.
So they reimagined the trades, no longer seeing them as noble professions that create and maintain the very structure of civilization, but as a sort of sub-basement ghetto that underprivileged people were stuck in due to lack of opportunity, inequity and somehow racism, because they always slip that in there somewhere.
All of a sudden, "education", meaning a university specifically, was the path to a better life.
Education.
Not work. Education.
You weren't supposed to learn a skill, do it for money, have a home and a vehicle and a middle class lifestyle where you could afford to have a wife and raise some kids because you worked, then be able to retire in comfort when you got old.
No, you were supposed to go through academia as the gatehouse, and gatekeeper, of the middle class.
The messaged was to pushed out that anyone who built physical objects, or otherwise worked with his hands, was only doing so because he wasn't smart enough to do anything better.
As Barrack Obama, the arch-grifter of the modern left himself, put it:
"In a global economy where the most valuable skill you can sell is your knowledge, a good education is no longer just a pathway to opportunity - it is a prerequisite."
And:
"Higher education cannot be a luxury reserved just for a privileged few. It is an economic necessity for every family. And every family should be able to afford it."
That was the plan. Tell everyone, literally everyone, that they need to go to college, fund it all by pushing federally-subsidized debt-slavery loans on 18 year olds, and attack any objectors by accusing them of wanting to deprive people of the education that "everyone deserves", and somehow racism, because that always gets slipped in there somewhere.
All of this, of course, is complete bullshit.
Universities are not the ultimate expression of knowledge, ability, productivity, or indeed almost anything.
Universities are simply a trade school for intellectuals.
What is an intellectual? An intellectual, per Thomas Sowell, is someone whose work product is ideas.
So, when we understand this, we realize that the grand plan of the left, as articulated by Barrack Obama, is for everyone who matters to become an intellectual, and for everyone who isn't an intellectual to not matter.
All the real people are supposed to sit around coming up with ideas, talking about them, and getting paid for it, while all the buildings are built, floors are cleaned, and devices are built, by foreign factories and imported laborers with limited English skills.
If anyone objects to this, they are simply told to go to university and join the intellectual class, so they can have not only a better life, but the right to an opinion.
This is why the left always speaks highly of the poor in abstract, but the moment they start voting for Trump, they are no longer the poor, they are "uneducated" and "low information voters".
The left's brave new world is to consist of a permanent underclass of tradesmen and service workers, ruled by intellectuals and kept in check by playing them and the teeming masses of the third world off against each other.
Why?
Well, because socialism has always been a movement of, by, and for intellectuals. Communist revolutions may be fought by laborers, but they are always instigated, proselytized, and led by the universities.
How natural, then, that socialists would insist that all leadership, respect, and economic status be channeled through academia... because this makes them into a de facto ruling class.
To accomplish this, it was necessary to achieve two goals. First, to purge conservatives and liberals from academia, and second, to diminish the cultural influence and respect given to workers and entrepreneurs.
The first goal has largely been accomplished.
They are working on the second.
Suddenly Ivermectin shows up on the NIH website for treating Covid. After years of denial, blocking, interference, villification, ruining social media accounts, killing people, etc. they silently add it to their antiviral protocol.
