Lucky husband of @ntduke and father of two amazing girls. Cofounder of NextView. Built some product at Ebay and learned some investing at Spark Capital
@danprimack I highly doubt it actually because of the time horizon . By the time a failure truly happens there'll be so much enthusiasm and capital concentrated into the next thing and the one after that.
A few principles I’ve come to believe about competition:
1) You’re more likely to win or lose because of your own company’s actions than those of your competition. This is particularly true of startups but I’ve found surprisingly true at scale as well.
2) Being copied isn’t always inspiring. But it usually means you’re leading. Don’t waste energy looking over your shoulder. Lead, don’t follow.
3) There’s more to learn from customers than competitors. Consumer markets are hard, but they’re honest. Sales, engagement, and retention are the only scoreboard that matters.
4) There’s a difference between obsessing over competitors and harnessing a deeply competitive spirit. The former distracts you from your true intuition. The latter gives you the extra motivation to do your best work.
5) Creating a market is valuable. Continuing to lead after others copy you is even more valuable. You’re innovative and durable.
6) Remember big, growing markets attract competition. Competition validates the opportunity.
Now go win.
We're excited to announce that Skyfall has emerged from stealth.
For years, the foundation model market has relied on a single paradigm: scaling laws for LLMs - more data, more compute, bigger models. However, we believe the next generation of AI models requires a different approach. Skyfall is solving the hardest open problems in frontier AI: long-horizon planning, data inefficiency, and brittle performance in dynamic real-world environments. To achieve the team's vision of a completely autonomous enterprise, the team is developing a next-generation frontier model using Continual Learning and World Modeling.
Our CEO and Co-Founder Sam Pasupalak (@spisallyouneed) shares what's next for Skyfall and why we're building a new category of frontier AI.
Read the full announcement to learn more about our vision and how we're addressing the foundational gaps in today's AI systems.
PS: we also announced something big 👀 in the article
New Post: Where Do You Live on the Valuation Curve? Inspired by wonderful data from @PeterJ_Walker@cartainc
TLDR - you live somewhere on this curve. But probably not where you started. And I think that has big implications.
https://t.co/FL7Q9RnLOS
@PeterJ_Walker@cartainc It's either lack of quality or some market inefficiency that you are somehow lucky enough to profiting from.
But you don't think about it in quite as harsh terms if you are investing at the top quartile or even second quartile of valuations.
@PeterJ_Walker@cartainc That’s the only argument. But it’s viable for the right companies.
I think the issue is more on the low end. I don’t think most seed investors think “I am specifically targeting third quartile valuation companies.” But that’s effectively what many do.
Big news: NextView portfolio company @WaldenRobotics has emerged from stealth today with a $300M seed round at a $1.1B valuation, co-led by our friends at Toyota and @deviationcap 💥

So excited that @NextViewVC gets to be a part of the journey. "Useful on day one, better every day after". Let's go @RussTedrake and the Walden Robotics team!
In January, I started "building something new" with an incredible team. Today I finally get to share some first details about what we've been building. We've called it Walden Robotics (https://t.co/LVSojsX8aJ).
I thought long and hard about my own reasons for starting this company. It's not only about the robots. It's also about people. I've tried to capture those thoughts in my first Walden blog post: https://t.co/Lmo1CU8tLF
It's been an incredible ride so far. Within just a few months of forming the company, we were already operating a general-purpose robot with an end-to-end policy in production in one of the most important factories in North America. It's amazing at how much I've already learned from that experience. There is a lot of work to do, but the mission has never been so clear.
Please help me welcome Walden Robotics into the world. And stay tuned for more updates!

There is a romantic notion that assigns virtue to those that stay focused and true to the same strategy for a long time.
But the organizations that win and persist have re-invented themselves many times as their contexts has changed.
Another great post from my partner @davidbeisel (with an amazing throwback screenshot from 2005). He talks about the blowback he got as a VC blogging publicly and the reaction he gets today to his strong thoughts on AI in the VC business. An inversion is coming - don't miss it
In 2005, a few months into my first blog, I wrote a post titled "Stop! You Shouldn't Blog. The Risks of Professional Blogging."
I gave five reasons a VC shouldn't write in public. Then the whole thing inverted.
