Assuming a journey at sea, a Storm Petrel ringed at Portland Bird Observatory at 02:00 yesterday, and with us at 02:45 this morning, had put in a pretty swift 450km
Long weekend @SkokholmIsland well looked after by Rich and Giselle as always, had the honour of helping to colour ring the puffins and to ring some Pufflings, greater black-backed gull was a pleasant surprise yesterday morning. Myself and my daughter loved it, all under licence.
The UK longevity record for Barn Owl was 15 years and 7 months. last year I retrapped a male that I had ringed nearly 17 years earlier. However, last night I retrapped a female that had been ringed just over 18 years earlier !
First time seeing greenies displaying to each other today in Bushy park, lovely to watch! This pair had at least 2 fledged young tailing them and enjoying the ant nests. @theroyalparks@LondonBirdClub#londonbirds
Given I live in Nottinghamshire, Turtle Dove is a very rare treat for me these days. Loved spending some time with a couple of pairs in Bedfordshire the past few evenings.
Fantastic news 19 Lesser Spotted Woodpecker nests found & being watched/monitored by our volunteers. Most have 4 chicks, well fed by the adults. Nests are so difficult to find & these are only a tiny proportion of the 2000+ LSW pairs in Britain, but all very positive this year.
Swifts from staines res yesterday morning. Cold and windy conditions kept the flies down and the few hundred swifts were wizzing past head height. An awesome experience. @swifts_uk@Colne_Valley@LondonBirdClub#londonbirds
They are back….
Nice to see day roosting Nightjars in the New Forest yesterday morning (Wed 7 May).
Especially nice to see this pair roosting close together.

Some great exercises and advice has given me more confidence to get out there and develop my skills further. He's looking to start offering lessons in the near future, so if you're interested let me know and I can put you in touch! 2/2
Today I spent a mizzly but productive morning with Martin Elliott, a fantastic wildlife artist and birder. He was kind enough to start showing me the ropes of field sketching - capturing live and moving subjects can be difficult without practice! 1/2
An excellent morning at Hayle Estuary yesterday- Adult winter RING-BILLED GULL pictured alongside Common Gull for comparison- note the thicker bill and pale iris and stockier head. Also there adult winter Glaucous Gull.with @a1virginia
Oslo is having its first cold spell of the winter and shallow lakes and marshes are now frozen. Any remaining snipe have either had to flee south or seek refuge on suitable streams.
This Jack Snipe has chosen the later and allowed itself to be filmed bobbing and feeding today.
