Wannabe virologist playing with influenza with the Digardians @roslininstitute. Good friend of the Palmarini gang @CVRinfo. Always having all the fun! (she/her)
@roslininstitute Thank you! This will hopefully allow researchers within the @roslininstitute to better understand host-pathogen interactions in flu and other respiratory infections. Wish us luck! 😊
📄 NEW Publication with @CRUK_BI!
@annasimsbiol, #HuailongZhao, @RuteMPinto & @snjasim worked with @Robertslab1 and colleagues create stable, long lasting, florescent viruses for exciting 3D imaging (@Onlycloney) to visualise the virus antigen.

@Morbillivirus@SamJWilsonPhD Thanks Dalan! 😊 It was a huge team effort, many talented people and a wice range of expertise. Massimo (shamefully not on Twitter) used to call it "the B force". It never really caught up, but it might have a come back. Alternative suggestions are appreciated...
A team of international scientists has discovered a key human gene that blocks the spillover of avian flu into people.🔬🦠
Led by researchers at @CVRinfo, the breakthrough study is published in @Nature and is predominantly funded by the @The_MRC.

🐓 Key gene that blocks the spillover of #AvianFlu to humans discovered.
@RuteMPinto, @WilsonLabCVR & colleagues have identified that the BTN3A3 gene is vital to protecting humans against avian flu.

This work was led by @RuteMPinto, with notable contributions from @DrSidBakshi, @SpyrosLytras , Khalid Zakaria and many others at the @CVRinfo (especially our long-term collaborator Massimo Palmarini).
There we go, poster is up at #Nido2023@nidovirus2023! Interested in hearing more about SCV2 spike variants using recombinant live viruses and associated phenotypes + virulence? Come along for a chat! Vanessa Cowton (not on Twitter) and myself will be happy to tell you more
1/14 Our latest paper, where we demonstrate utility of CpG enrichment for augmentation of live attenuated influenza A virus (IAV) vaccines, is now published. T'was a labour of love, and a journey exploring the good, bad and ugly of the publishing world. https://t.co/iGv4oZi7Da
Roslin is recruiting a Prof of Virology!!!! Please share far and wide!!! Would suit PI working on livestock viruses. Reasons why Roslin is awesome in thread. Job link here: https://t.co/Hocb2FowVS
@PeacockFlu@toba@jmcrookston @aslajoie @kakape@JPWeiland@SpyrosLytras That's right... In cases of direct avian-human transmission, the residue that defines BTN3A3 restriction is NP 52. There are some sequences of the current circulating H5N1 that already code for a BTN3A3-resistant NP. The late December 2022 mink outbreak on Spain is one example.
@geraldmbarry@CVRinfo Thanks, Gerald!😀Although I can't take all the credit for it. @DrSidBakshi , @SpyrosLytras and Khalid Zakaria (not on Twitter... YET!!!) were my main partners in crime and many people have contributed to it.
@DrMEStewart@SystemsVirology@CVRinfo@biorxivpreprint This was an amazing effort from a multidisciplinary team of talented people which I had the pleasure to work with... I'm very glad it's importance is being recognised! 😀
