Our paper exploring effects of solid tumor malignancy-associated inflammation upon COVID-19 vaccine-induced antibodies is live! We show that while dysregulated inflammation impairs neutralization, variant cross-reactive Fc effector functions remain robust.

And of course, none of this would have been possible without the input from a hugely collaborative, interstate clinical team and the support of many scientists and clinicians @TheDohertyInst@BiologyANU

We found that inflammatory biomarkers (incl. cytokines, agalactosylated IgG, and atypical B cells) were elevated in solid tumor patients and were negatively correlated with neutralizing antibody responses, but not with antibodies against conserved epitopes or with Fc functions.
In a recent study published in Science Advances, researchers explored whether adding IgG4 antibodies in blood samples would affect vaccine-induced immunity. ๐https://t.co/S8ZLpEImrA @UniMelbMDHS @TheRMH@UniMelb
Affinity maturation happens outside of the GC? ๐คฏ*
* Well, kinda... PB/PCs leave the GC and expand proportional to their affinity.

๐งต 1/N How often should I get a #COVID19 booster vaccine? Our new article published in @NatureComms estimates benefit of different frequencies of COVID vaccines against severe disease by risk group (age, immunocompromised status). Check it out here! https://t.co/y3Oosh6NAw
Genetic variations in Immunoglobulin G can impact antibody assessment, with certain clones showing preference for specific IgG variants, potentially leading to misinterpretation of responses

6/n: By understanding the mechanisms of altered antibody responses in immunocompromised individuals, we may be able to tailor vaccination strategies to selectively boost impaired immune features and enhance protection.
๐งต1/n: Can rational induction of antibodies with non-neutralising functions contribute to improved vaccine effectiveness in vulnerable populations? ๐๐ด๐คฐ

5/n: Immunocompromised populations have characteristic Fc modifications.
For example, specific Fc glycosylation patterns are associated with altered levels of inflammation.
However, certain vaccination strategies can also drive distinct changes to Fc effector function profiles ๐ค
