It will take multiple approches across the whole of human activity, transport being one, to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. It shows a lack of imagination to reduce the issue/solution down to personal vehicles alone

When they refer to a 2 degree rise they mean average global temperature will rise 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels. When that happens it will set off chains of event that cause even higer rises which no humans are likely to survive
