♎ 👭 Without a justice system that effectively works for women, the promise of justice for all people will remain incomplete.
Moving toward women-centered justice is ultimately a strategic commitment for the Ibero-American region. By doing so, this can:
🌎 Fulfill international obligations
⚖️ Strengthen the rule of law
🏢 Improve the quality of institutions
🫂 Consolidate more inclusive and resilient democracies.

“Inequality.”
💬 This term is invoked so frequently, and so loosely, that its opposite—equality—can start to sound less like a real goal and more like a decorative phrase in policy speeches and academic debate.
Part of what makes inequality so challenging to tackle is that we struggle to agree on what it even is.
Countries define it differently, measure it differently, and respond to it differently. Yet whatever the approach, as @amitabhbehar, Executive Director of @Oxfam International, has argued, “ending inequality is a political choice.”
Some hold that a degree of inequality is inherent to any society and lies beyond the reach of political will, but on one point there is little disagreement: reducing it, or at least trying to, is a choice
⏩ Our newest analysis authored by Jeronimo Pareja-Cardona, @SDG16Plus Program Officer, follows that “choice” through three moments. Before anyone can reduce inequality, someone has to define it, decide how to measure it, and choose how to respond; and none of those steps are neutral.

💡 At the United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, Switzerland this past July, Hon. Judge Samuel Arias Arzeno explains why justice systems are essential to ensuring AI respects human rights.
Key takeaways:
⚖️ AI governance is truly tested when people seek justice after their rights have been affected by AI.
🌍 International human rights law already provides the foundation—we must strengthen justice systems to enforce it.
🚨 Courts can serve as an early warning system, identifying regulatory gaps and informing better AI governance.
✅ We need greater institutional capacity, transparency, human oversight, and access to justice.
🇩🇴 He also highlights the Dominican Republic's leadership in the Justice Action Coalition, where it co-leads work on emerging technologies and AI in justice with the World Bank.

Key messages include:
✔️ Women's #AccessToJustice is an ongoing process, not a one-off event.
✔️ Guaranteeing women's access to justice requires intervention before, during, and after the judicialization of the conflict.

Glad to see the @APRMorg engagement at the #HLPF on Sustainable Development continue to grow year after year.
🚀 This year, we once again convened our annual high-level dialogue with African ministers and European partners through our collaboration with @OECDgov.
ℹ️ We also hosted a series of peer-learning Voluntary National Review (VNR) Labs, with a particular focus on African countries presenting their voluntary reports on the #SDGs, in partnership with @ECA_OFFICIAL, @UNOSAA1, @UNDPAfrica, @UNDESA, and @SDG16Plus.
💡 It was especially encouraging to witness the growing participation of APRM national structures and associated institutions from 🇸🇳 🇬🇳 🇳🇦 🇱🇷 🇪🇬 and 🇩🇿, reflecting the continent's deepening commitment to peer learning, policy coherence, and accelerating progress towards the SDGs and Agenda 2063.
📌 My appreciation goes to all partners who made this possible,to our member states for believing in our mandate, the @AfricanUnionUN for their unwavering support and last but not least, the leadership of the @_AfricanUnion represented by H.E @DCP_Haddadi
Looking forward to translating these valuable exchanges into concrete governance reforms and stronger implementation across the continent. #TheAfricaWeWant #Agenda2063
🏘️ How can existing justice systems support a #PeopleCenteredJustice approach to housing justice?
In our new blog, colleagues from @IIED highlight examples that are already working. This includes:
Brazil 🇧🇷: Despejo Zero (“Zero Evictions”) is a coalition of grassroots groups, universities, human rights lawyers, and support organizations that emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic to prevent a catastrophic wave of evictions. Its efforts led to a ruling by the Supreme Federal Court declaring it unconstitutional to evict people during a health crisis, and were followed by further mandates at the local and regional levels.
Kenya 🇰🇪: Planning tools were adapted to establish special or exceptional zones to advance housing rights in marginalized areas.
South Africa 🇿🇦: A court ruling led to the introduction of binding requirements to upgrade existing informal settlements to secure housing.
Nigeria 🇳🇬: Paralegal community members, working with grassroots media to provide evidence, have opened new avenues to interact with the formal justice systems in highly contested eviction processes.

🎉 Thank you to all of our attendees for joining these insightful discussions earlier this week with @APRMorg, @UNOSAA1, and colleagues across the #SDG space to leverage synergies across #Agenda2030, #Agenda2063, and #APRM review processes.
At the #HLPF2026 VNR Lab, co-hosted by the APRM, UNOSAA & Pathfinders leaders called for moving from commitments to implementation. Discussions focused on stronger governance, financing, nationally owned data and inclusive participation to accelerate #Agenda2030#Agenda2063#SDGs
Today, I welcomed partners and participants to the @APRMorg –@UNOSAA1 –@SDG16Plus VNR Lab on African agency in agile and responsive governance organised as part of the official VNR Labs of the HLPF 2026. In my remarks, I emphasised that the challenge before us is not the absence of frameworks, but the need to translate existing commitments into meaningful action.
National development plans must be reflected in public budgets and investment decisions. International cooperation should strengthen country systems rather than establish parallel structures that are difficult to sustain. Ultimately, progress must be felt in people’s everyday lives and reflected in the confidence they place in public institutions.
I also welcomed the participation of young people and civil society, whose voices should be heard while priorities are still being shaped, rather than only after decisions have been taken. Their perspectives help institutions understand where policies are delivering and where adjustments may be required.
“To achieve the #SDGs, we have to ensure equal access to justice for all as enshrined in SDG 16.3, and commit to an interlinked approach to the 2030 Agenda.”—H.E. @NicolaClase, Permanent Representative of @SwedenUN, speaking on behalf of the Justice Action Coalition at the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (#HLPF2026).

Delighted to share perspectives on the critical role of parliaments in translating commitments into legislation, budgets, oversight and implementation.
My call to action: institutionalize parliamentary engagement throughout review processes; from preparation and participation to follow-up.
