A new report by Colombo‑based think tank Verité Research finds President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s administration has overtaken that of former President Maithripala Sirisena in legislative output at the 18‑month mark. While Sirisena led early with more bills gazetted and passed, the AKD presidency converted a larger share of proposals into law, enacting 32 compared to Sirisena’s 20. The study highlights greater efficiency under AKD in translating legislative initiatives into enacted laws.

Sri Lanka's Fuel Import Bill to Drop Sharply: Major Relief for the Rupee Incoming 💵🛢️
CPC Chairman announced a significant reduction in fuel import costs by July, which will ease pressure on the Rupee
Here's the clear breakdown: -
💵 May 2026: USD 520 million (spiked due to 11 shipments procured in April due to refinery shortages, including extra diesel for power generation amid drought and high demand)
💵 June 2026: Reduced to USD 318 million
💵 July 2026: Will gurther reduce to USD 198 million (returning to normal monthly levels of ~5 shipments)
🌟 Positive Outlook: Lower fuel import bills in June and July will significantly reduce pressure on foreign reserves and help stabilize the Sri Lankan Rupee. This gradual normalization brings welcome relief to the economy. 💰⚡

A hundred years.
One island.
Two different stories.
In 1926, our forests breathed freely. Rivers flowed clean. The land stood in silence.
In 2026, we have grown rapidly. But somewhere along the journey, the green fell silent.
Now is not the time to blame each other, but the time to transform it.
We may not be able to regain everything we lost. But we can still protect what remains.
Let’s turn Sri Lanka green again….

Sri Lanka now exports more code than tea. Let that sink in.
For the first time, ICT/BPM exports overtook tea in April 2026 $146M vs $100M.
And the gap is only widening.
Projections for full-year 2026:
IT/BPM: ~$1.78B (+22.6% YoY)
Tea: ~$1.31B (−6.8% YoY)
Projected annual gap: ~$470M
What was once a tea-and-textiles economy is quietly becoming a knowledge economy.
Talent, code, and engineering capability are now out-earning the leaves that defined us for a century.

Are we so blinded by religion that we justify and normalize the rape of children?
I am speechless at the audacity of these "professional men" to come in front of cameras and speak like this.
We have really failed as a country...
Shameful.
The Sri Lankan Rupee appreciated further today (25) against the US Dollar, compared to last Friday, with commercial banks lowering the selling rate as low as Rs. 330 in some banks.

A heartbreaking incident is being reported from Bangladesh..! 🤍🥺
Little Ramisa, who was just 8 years old, was getting ready to go to school last Tuesday morning. They were living in an apartment building. Suddenly, her mother heard Ramisa screaming. When they searched, one of Ramisa’s shoes was found in front of a nearby house..!
The doors of that house were locked. Even after knocking, no one opened the door. Later, they broke the door and went inside. While searching, they found Ramisa’s headless body under a bed. Afterwards, her head was found inside a bucket in the bathroom..; seeing the bathroom itself made it clear how much pain this little child must have suffered.!
The perpetrator and his wife, who allegedly helped him, have now been arrested..!
At this moment, a large number of people in Bangladesh are gathering together demanding justice for little Ramisa..;
Today it happened in Bangladesh, but tomorrow it could happen in Sri Lanka too..!
So I ask all of you to protect innocent little children like the apple of your eye!
It only takes a small moment for such a huge tragedy to happen..!
May the little one attain eternal peace.

A Landmark Moment in Sri Lanka’s Energy Transition
Today marks a significant milestone that deserves to be remembered in Sri Lanka’s energy history.
Sri Lanka’s first commercial scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has arrived at the Port of Colombo, representing an important step in the country’s renewable energy transition and grid modernization efforts.
The shipment which arrived, is part of Sri Lanka’s first utility scale energy storage project being implemented. Initial project sites have been allocated in Galle and Matara, and integration with the national grid is expected in the coming months.
For years, Sri Lanka’s power system has faced challenges balancing intermittent renewable generation and peak electricity demand fluctuations. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) offer a practical solution by improving grid stability, resilience, and dispatchability while supporting cleaner and more reliable energy supply for households, businesses, and the broader economy.
The technology provider for this project is Sungrow Power Supply, one of the world’s leading energy storage manufacturers.
Beyond grid stabilization, this development aligns with broader discussions around Sri Lanka’s future energy ecosystem including electric mobility, green industrial development, and emerging opportunities in Green Hydrogen, Green Ammonia, and Green Urea initiatives.
Sri Lanka’s energy transition journey may have faced delays and missed opportunities in the past, but developments like this show that the country is steadily moving towards a more sustainable, resilient, and future ready energy landscape.
This is not just an infrastructure project; it is a signal of where Sri Lanka is heading.
