@MysteriosoX I did Econ and had 12-16 hours of contact time a week, plus 20 digesting the material and problem sets.
Couldn’t fathom peers studying humanities who seemed to do about 10 hours total a week. How’s there any signalling effect or academic fulfilment if the degrees are that easy?
@mrianleslie There’s a distinction between club and international football.
I think people (incl myself) accept the benefits of an uber-capitalist club system whilst thinking the World Cup better serves football by focusing more on the spirit of intl competition rather than money-making.
@flameosumeet Well presumably the argument is that the majority of players of those sports are American. So Americans are under-represented in the elite given who actual plays those sports.
@IvanWerning The players did as expected. I wouldn’t feel too proud nor disappointed. The American fans/public should feel proud for showing the best of the US. Many US talking heads and commentators (who often should know better) should be ashamed (but won’t be).
@MattZeitlin Lots of fans terrified of the dominant USMNT, who destroyed the giant footballing nations of Australia, Paraguay and Bosnia (and lost to a terrible Turkey side).
From speaking to a few legal people etc re Balogun, there's a consensus that:
10.5 is clear - cards are issued by the referee. They are not "disciplinary measures" so 12.7 should not apply
The object of the FIFA disciplinary code it is to do with infringement of rules, not on-field offences
9.1 says decisions are final and may not be reviewed by the FIFA judicial bodies
@CromRedoubt Quite annoying looking into British politicians described as economists just to find their “expertise” is in some wholly political academic discipline with the “economics” or “economy” stuck on the end.
