Hands off our schools!
The Ford government is taking over school boards instead of fixing what’s actually wrong: chronic underfunding.
Parents, students, education workers, teachers, and community members are coming together in Peterborough to demand real solutions. Join the townhall:

Powerful voices at Queen’s Park today.
#OSSTF President @marthahradowy joined student trustees, union partners, and @cancivlib to call out the government’s takeover of seven school boards.
These actions create confusion, instability, and disruption in schools. They make it harder for teachers and education workers to do their jobs and support student learning.
Takeovers are not solutions. Students need funding, stability, and real support.
All school bus transportation in Zone #1, Zone #2 and Zone #3 is cancelled today.

Report card season just got bigger. Another Minister is failing...
In Postsecondary & University Funding, Ontario’s Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security, Nolan Quinn, earns a Code R — Not Meeting Expectations.
Here’s what students, faculty, and staff are facing across Ontario:
❌ Chronic underfunding of colleges and universities
❌ Program cuts, layoffs, and hiring freezes
❌ No sustainable, long-term funding framework
These choices are destabilizing campuses, shrinking opportunities for students, threatening the economic future of Ontario, and putting thousands of good jobs at risk.
Ontario needs a government that invests in postsecondary education, not one that drives decline.

When his government is failing, he changes the rules instead of fixing the problem...
In Bill 33 & Democratic Governance, Ontario’s Minister of Education, Paul Calandra, earns a Grade: Code N — Needs Improvement.
Instead of addressing chronic underfunding, staffing shortages, and rising violence, this government is choosing supervision and takeovers.
Here’s what we’re seeing:
❌ Government control instead of real partnerships
❌ Disregard for trustees, communities, and local voices
❌ Major decisions made without meaningful consultation
Bill 33 and board takeovers don’t fix what’s broken in education.
They distract from it.
They shift blame.
They centralize power.
They avoid responsibility.

The professional judgment of teachers & education workers' is being undermined by a system that prioritizes optics and outcomes over real student learning and supports.
Ontario students now need mid-to-high 80s and 90s just to be competitive for university, according to new reporting from CBC News.
Pressuring schools to inflate results does not serve students and everyone knows it. #OSSTF will always defend the professional judgment of educators and the value of #OntEd diplomas.

It’s report card time… and Calandra can’t even get the basics right.
In School Funding & Basic Supplies, Ontario’s Minister of Education, Paul Calandra, earns a Grade: N — Needs Improvement.
Here’s what teachers & education workers are seeing in schools across Ontario:
❌ Soap and paper towels treated like luxury items.
❌ Classrooms stripped bare as supplies run out and aren’t replaced.
❌ Students unable to keep handouts because there isn’t enough paper to photocopy.
❌ School boards forced to cut essentials instead of being properly funded.
Schools should never have to choose between basic hygiene and learning supports.

Hammer a nail into a tree, and it will get stuck. So why doesn't the same thing happen to the sharp beaks of woodpeckers? Scientists may finally have the answer.
In a 2021 study, researchers took high-speed videos of two black woodpeckers pecking away at hardwood trunks in zoos and analyzed them frame by frame to see how the head and beak moved throughout each peck.
The bird's secret: an ability to move its upper and lower beaks independently, the team reports.

It bears repeating. No, taking Tylenol during pregnancy does not cause autism. One study found a correlation, not a causation. Other research has found no clear link.
Acetaminophen is one of the few safe options for pain relief during pregnancy.
