@MunEvan This is true! Canadian record labels have a hard time competing with American labels, CanCon plays an important role in giving Canadian artists a chance #MUS2011
@NathanRMacNeil I agree, Canadian artist still often see success, but are very frequently not regarded on the same level as there American counterparts
I believe it is important to enforce a quota for Canadian artists within Canada. Supporting local artist who have a hard time competing with the American music industry is important. For example Leonard Cohen is often overshadowed by his contemporary Bob Dylan. #MUS2011
@kylep_123 I agree! Most times I would rather a listen to the studio recordings of a song, however it is interesting to see how other artists interpret a classic song. #MUS2011
I agree with Wald's assessment of today's pop music. Lot's of people who regularly listen to music feel as if they have a connection with the artist they like to listen to. Listening to the song played by another artist takes away from the experience. #MUS2011
@CraigWe67813575 I agree with this statement, in order to solidify oneself as an important artist you need to be able to come up with creative new sounds, not just copy sounds that have already been popular. #MUS2011
In popular music a genre becomes oversaturated and creativity is lost. Ray Charles used a breaking voice in his music in order to try and get the listeners to open there minds and think of different ways the genre can be utilized, making him more creative. #MUS2011
The media industry tends to try and get the listener to buy into a certain lifestyle. Usually a lifestyle of luxury, that says you'll only be "cool" if you buy expensive brand-name clothes or fancy cars. This would be an example of a false-need #MUS2011
