No time for doubt. The future of #humanity is urban.Let’s join hands to get cities on the right track of being green, just, liveable,in peace.🍀🌇 #WUF11@ifrc
I understand Vessel MV #Kathrin, carrying a 150-metric-ton shipment of military-grade explosives destined for Israel's largest defence contractor, has docked in the port of Alexandria and may soon continue its journey. I implore the government of #Egypt to act and stop the vessel from advancing.
At a time when Israel is committing acts of genocide against the Palestinians (a risk recognised by the ICJ earlier this year), the ICJ has reiterated that States are under a legal obligation “to respect and to ensure respect” for the Genocide Convention “in all circumstances,” including ”international obligations relating to the transfer of arms to parties to an armed conflict.” Imposing an arms embargo on Israel is critical, as also recalled by both the Human Rights Council and UNGA. This is not just a moral duty, but a critical legal obligation to prevent further atrocities.
We must preserve the primacy of int'l law and human rights, lest we lose them when we need them most.
@Hamzasharif5750 Just donated, good luck and stay strong to you and family. We are ashamed that all our calls for a ceasefire are ignored, but we dont give up!you are NOT alone.💪🏽🤞
With most of Lebanon's 973 shelters already at capacity, many displaced people have been reduced to squatting in vacant buildings or sleeping in cars and public parks.

#Beirut, 1000s of displaced families looking for shelter in a city where housing, the prime target of financialization strategies for the past decades, is overpriced and out of reach. There are beautiful solidarity gestures, but the context is harshly set against their success.
@ifrc We need to prepare as the future of humanity is in cities. No climate solutions without citizen-led changes, at the scale and urgency it requires!Advancing together in #Seoul forum with @RCClimate@IFRCAsiaPacific@redcrosskorea
Cities are particularly vulnerable to heatwaves because of the urban heat island effect.
Right now the world's urban population is growing by around 1.4 million people every week. If this trend continues, by 2050 an estimated two thirds of the world's population will live in cities.
The IFRC teams are helping urban communities worldwide be more prepared for, and resilient to, increasing and changing hazards.
At the Urban Collaboration Forum, we call for greater action to make cities safer, more accessible, and protect the most vulnerable. #UCP2024
Many parts of the world are experiencing record-breaking temperatures and severe heatwaves.
Heatwaves aren’t just getting more frequent; they are getting hotter.
Extreme heat is a silent yet formidable adversary that, without action, will kill thousands in the coming years. To draw attention to this silent killer, the IFRC co-hosted the first-ever Global Summit on Extreme Heat with @USAID in late March 2024.
Everyone can be at risk from extreme heat, but its impacts disproportionately affect the most vulnerable. The IFRC continues to help communities prepare for and adapt to this changing climate.
Extreme heat presents a significant challenge, but it is not insurmountable if we join forces for action.
Give me a minute while I grieve the country I once knew. This France is the antithesis of the values we proclaim and a tar on our history. Tonight every French person should bow our head in shame at what decades of normalisation of racism has facilitated. La honte. Que dire de plus.
Urban Collaboration Platform hosted by APDRC, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Korean Red Cross from July 2nd to 4th in Seoul is off to a good start!
With 2/3 of world expected to be living in cities by 2050 it is crucial to invest in joint action for #urban#resilience.
Try your chance and test your knowledge on #heat! Action and spread your tips with family and friends for #HeatActionDay ☝🏼🤝🥵@ifrc@RCClimate

On #AfricaDay, I reiterate my faith in Africa’s youth.
My message to you: stay focus, hopeful and driven. Build the know-how to break down historical and economic barriers that hinder our continent from having its rightful place under the sun. Happy Africa Day!

"In over 30 years of studying and engaging with communities affected by displacement, I have never seen a shocking atrocity like this."
Me neither.
Shocking atrocity televised, day after day, rationalised and condoned by most western countries, and tolerated by most of the rest.
What a shameful low we have reached. May the Palestinians forgive us for our ridiculous, pathetic inability to enforce Humanity and the Law supposed to protect it.
Happy World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day!
Today we celebrate the incredible work done by our Red Cross and Red Crescent staff and volunteers around the world.
Every day, they keep Humanity alive, providing comfort to people in desperate need – sometimes paying the highest price.
This World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, let's honour their service, bravery and sacrifice.
Thank you for everything you do, thank you for being beacons of hope for Humanity. #RedCrossDay #RedCrescentDay
