Everyone remembers the "come on India, let's football" marketing campaign that launched the Indian Super League in 2014. It aimed to introduce the sport to a football-illiterate populace.

In West Bengal, however, Star built up to the ISL with their CFL coverage and a very unique marketing campaign called 'Target 2026'

It featured ordinary people venting their frustration in public. But they were not venting about politics or economy. They were screaming about the declining state of #indianfootball, about us falling back while the world moved ahead.

They were ashamed that India was not playing at the World Cup. And they were angry that no one was doing anything meaningful to change that.

Each rant ended with an adamant declaration: we will play the World Cup in 2026.

Amid all the plastic glamour of the early ISL, this was a surprisingly poignant pitch: they were promising something every fan had dreamed of all their lives, but knew was beyond their reach.

Now, 2026 is here. The World Cup is happening. 48 countries are playing but once again we are nowhere close.

And when I look around the fanbase I still don't see the shame and frustration that the characters in the ad so brilliantly articulated.

It's the anger and shame I have felt since I was a kid, watching my first World Cup in 1994, innocently asking my father when was India's match only to be told we were not good enough to qualify.

We will never get out of this rut until we learn to see it as the cancer it is. Not playing in the World Cup should be unacceptable. Not making significant improvement to our current state should be grounds for dismissal of every AIFF bigwig.

But why isn't that the case? Where are the protests in the stadiums? Where are the videos, news stories, tweets, posts tearing apart all the excuses we keep hearing about our failure?

The curse of complacency has kept us hostage for half a century now. When will we realise this is not normal?

When will we shout and scream that we will not accept this crap any more?

Libbi here observed that Brahmins of Pune still pronounce the ण​ in the Marathi written language properly by curling their tongue backwards, and others have dropped that and merged it with न sound which is the dental “n” sound. She wanted to write how maintaining the tradition of linguistic retroflexion is casteist. But she was too dumb to google the terms like “retroflexion” or “dental” that describe the difference between the consonants न and ण​. So, she just used a random word “nasal” and describes the retroflex ण​ as “nasal n”. Roflmao. The fun fact is that both न and ण​ are nasal sounds (you get a hmmmm coming out of your nose when you pronounce both the consonants). Can’t even google for the appropriate term and these geniuses have come to write articles titled “How the nasal na insists on Marathi’s caste hierarchy” 😂😂😂

If brahmins speak the language based on how it is written , it means that they have still preserved the older pronunciation of the language that prevailed when it was first written down . It is others who have changed their pronunciation.

Also retroflexion , if at all it goes, is the most indigeneous thing to the subcontinent 😭😭😭 There is nothing more that is a sign of indigenity to the subcontinent than retroflex sounds. Most languages that has been here for a long time in the subcontinent (no matter the family - Aryan, Dravidian, Munda, Iranian) have developed phonemic retroflexion ; even Pashto, which is an eastern dialect of Persian, spoken in southern Afghanistan has developed retroflex consonants ffs 😭😭

Retroflexion is the last thing that is brahminical and Aryan. No other Indo-European languages outside Indian subcontinent have phonemic retroflexion. Retroflexion is an indigeneous feature of the Indian sprachbund (language area).

Kudos to the brahmins who proudly flex their tongue backwards and carry on the indigeneous tradition of retroflexion that even the moolnivasis are losing.

A better version of a riverside recreational space would have been something like this. This is a riverside park in Taipei where
1. Natural materials have been used (not concrete),
2. Flood plains have been preserved
3. Habitats created for birds, insects and small fauna

This would have come at a fraction of the cost of Pune's RFD, is aesthetically more appealing, and could have been designed to suit our native ecosystem with the help of riverine ecologists.
