Speaking with John and Erica about what we can learn from stories like mine was cathartic and empowering. We are in a critical time within the larger church community. For far too long predatory behavior has been allowed to go on relatively unchecked. Now is the time for change.
The stories of abuse and cover up at Morningstar - @IamRickJoyner are disturbing and prolific. A courageous survivor shares her experience of being groomed and abused by her youth pastor at a Morningstar Fellowship Church: https://t.co/RhPXo8JiMB
My wife and I had the privilege of speaking with this courageous woman named Sarah Carr recently. She shares with us how the church leader used prophetic manipulation to coerce her into a betrothal with him, grooming the entire community by: "God told me." Senior pastors at Morningstar were aware of the relationship and did nothing to prevent the harm.
Though her abuser has been convicted recently, her work is far from over. She now tells her story in hopes of helping other victims as well as advocates to prompt change in their communities and speak out against abuse in the church. She has some encouraging words for those of us in the fight right now for truth and accountability. Please listen and share her story.
@cb24hr@MStarAcctNow I spoke with Steve Thompson twice once in 1996 and then again in 1998. Robin McMillian was the other leader who knew. (Sorry just seeing this question)
Unbelievable. A FIFTH lawsuit against MorningStar and this time CSCL. This story is appalling on so many levels. "The school did nothing about the complaints except tell the parents to handle the situation with the abuser." "After Rick Joyner had requested for Jane Doe #5’s family to provide information as to what happened to her, they were then ghosted with zero response from Joyner." #betteramillstone #morningstartoo #churchtoo #ihopkc

@ROM1513Jesus Thank you! 😊 I hope that the plea at least makes it harder for MS to keep ignoring the call for change when it comes to responding to those harmed within their communities.
Former Bradford County youth pastor, Robert David Fenton, 55, pleaded guilty on Thursday to multiple sex assault charges. Fenton fled to Australia before charges were filed, and was ultimately apprehended entering the Philippines in April 2024:

@ROM1513Jesus At this point it, there doesn’t seem be a path for formal accountability for their negligence. I will forever hope for acknowledgement, change, and healing with MS and local church leadership.
For me courtship culture denied personal autonomy, created a relationship dynamic that prioritized marriage over compatibility and emotional development, and reinforced the power given to my abuser.

@wes_martin13@JenniferVerdery@DrMichaelLBrown@alterofinquiry@TaylorMatthewD Charismatics & non-charismatic evangelics tend to be extremely sentimental about their own sincerity & good intentions, convinced that as long as they have the right gifting &/or the right doctrine, God will keep us from making horrible mistakes with devastating consequences.
So maybe some other church congregations were acceptable but they had better agree with all the points we’ve established in our enlightened creed. “We hold the real truth.” #cult#exevangelical#spiritualabuse
This is why the justice system especially is SA cases needs to be re-examined. I had a taste of this in the prelim and I’m still choosing to move forward knowing what I will endure to hold my abuser accountable. It’s taking everything I have to do it.
@kimwillsher1 It’s insane how the victims are put on the stand, and are judged and questioned instead of the criminals. They are shamed instead of the perpetrators. We’re supposed to understand and have empathy for the rapists but not for her? Men need to not run things anymore. I’m serious.
@AdamShort143 my mom forwarded the most recent podcast on William Branham’s Historical Research. TY!! I left MS a long time ago and am still reckoning with some hard things. Your insights really helped clear some of the gaslighting and sort of make sense of what happened to me.
I did what they asked. I followed God with all my heart.
I laid down my life, sacrificed my own desires to follow the will of God.
Only it wasn’t God, it was a man’s own desires and no one saw the difference.
I was 14, he was 26.

Such a timely conversation given the recent exposures of #clergyabuse at #morningstar
Episode 21 Interview w/ Sarah Carr Part 1 - Confronting Adult-Teen Court... https://t.co/XZXE4KDhIU via @YouTube
I haven’t been on X in so long but I hear this is where the conversation of #clergyabuse and #morningstar. Here to share my story, connect with advocates, maybe make sense of some of the crazy but mostly heal.
@Fidelity that was the worst customer service for an elderly client, I’m all for security but when a client can’t hear and someone steps in to repeat what was said they shouldn’t have to re-authenticate.
