Our Ex. Director @myerow adds his voice to the calls for increased #Somalia funding to save lives and avert #famine.
6 million people incl. 1.9m IPC4 (emergency) face acute food insecurity by June & 1.88m children <5, acute malnutrition by Dec, 2026.
@UNReliefChief@GConway_UN
Despite not currently funded to provide services to the most vulnerable, underserved groups, @SasmoSom continues to engage multiple stakeholders in its advocacy for inclusive #humanitarian action when #drought prevails and parts of #Somalia are at risk of #famine.
@GConway_UN
In #Somalia, the #Eylo are a marginalized hunter-gatherer communities who barely access humanitarian aid due to their location in #H2R areas. Today, some had a chance to be seen by a gov't & UN mission in #BurHakaba. @SasmoSom works to ensure humanitarian inclusion.
@GConway_UN
People in agropastoral livelihoods in #Burhakaba district of Bay region #SWS face the risk of famine if rainfall fails, food prices spike & humanitarian assistance not scaled up. @SasmoSom urges humanitarian actors to scale up their #inclusive life-saving responses.
@GConway_UN
In the heat of severe drought in #Somalia, @SasmoSom ramps up its advocacy & communication efforts on #inclusive life-saving emergency responses to ensure 'no one is left behind' It's engaging affected people at site levels & coordinating with humanitarian partners.
@GConway_UN
A stark reminder from Baidoa. Rising needs, rising costs & shrinking resources.
Many frontline partners, including @NGOConsortium members are forced into impossible choices.
Flexible, sustained funding is essential to save lives.
In Baidoa, SW Somalia, today.
Families fleeing drought and conflict, only to face floods.
At one site, 135 households share two latrines.
At the hospital, babies too weak to cry.
Aid cuts are not a line on a budget.
They lead here.
A cruel swipe of a pen in a rich capital stacks the survival odds even further against the displaced Somali women I met today.
Cuts mean they have to go much further to get lifesaving food, medicine and water, with no guarantees they’ll find any.
@SasmoSom appeals to international #donor community, #UN agencies & local/International NGOs to scale up emergency responses as drought and conflict pushes millions to the brink of a major humanitarian crises in #SWS

At the current rate, 5,000 children in Somalia are falling into malnutrition every day.
@WFP’s support is already extremely limited, and without urgent funding, even lifesaving treatment for the most vulnerable will come to a stop.
The severe drought threatens the lives of millions in #Somalia. #SWS is among the worst affected areas. Thanks minister #Arush & your team for the continuous efforts to coordinate #Emergency humanitarian response and save lives.
@SasmoSom ready to play a role in response efforts.
