In #Baidoa today, I chaired a meeting to coordinate emergency preparedness in South West State.

We discussed the humanitarian situation, recent needs assessments, and efforts to prevent aid misuse.

This rapid needs assessment in #Huddur, #Wajid, #Qansahdere, #Wanlaweyn and #Burhakaba revealed urgent needs in food, water, healthcare, education, and protection, especially for vulnerable groups.

This assessment was partnership between the Ministry of Humanitarian of #SWS and @OCHASom.

A representative from the SWS Deaf Society shared their experiences, emphasizing the need for inclusivity in our response.

Lessons learnt from the civil war in my home country #Somalia teach that civil only wreaks havoc and devastation. I call on warring parties in #Sudan to excercise retraint and end their differences, not through military force but though dialogue and reconciliation.

#BurHakaba is one of two districts in Bay region, #SWS where famine was averted in 2022 - thanks to a joint @WFPSomalia @unicefsomalia & @WHOSom integtrated hard-to-reach response. Hvr, the situation remains critical & response needs to continue amid fears of 6th failing season.

It is sad to learn the passing away of Avv. Abdi Musse Mayow in Mogadishu today. Avv mayow was a well-known Somali politician & a leader of the Somali Democratic Movement (SDM) of the 199Os hailing from the presently known Southwest state regions. May his soul rest in peace Amen.

For the first time in Somalia's history, the Somali clan of #Elay elected its Chief locally known as 'Malaaq' in a democratic ballot voting held in #Baidoa, #SWS. Chief Sheikh Mustaf Sheikh Mohamed won the election against five other contenders.

They're from a marginalized group "Eeyle".
The site was established b4 5 months & ppl are arriving daily.
