Save Amersham in Bloom

Campaign to stop Liberal Democrat Amersham Town Council playing politics with Amersham in Bloom - making residents pay extra 18% Council Tax for the privilege!

Our timeline today is full of nastiness from supporters of @calibdems and @SarahGreenLD because we dared suggest people should vote Green, Labour or Conservative in the by-election to stop Lib Dem wrecking of Amersham in Bloom. So here’s some joy - beautiful spring blossom.

[Save Amersham in Bloom @SaveAmerInBloom]

@marsh_not_march @LouiseStaite @SarahGreenLD @ChesAmerTories Are you even an Amersham resident? If so I hope you understand just how utterly offensive that tweet is. Yes Amersham in Bloom matters. It’s good to understand that it doesn’t for the Lib Dems. Vote Green, Conservative or Labour today.

@libdemdom @calibdems Given you’ve been silent and your candidate wrote to our supporters trying to blame officers for your wrecking of Amersham in Bloom - we think residents should vote for anyone but her. Vote Green, Labour or Conservative is our request to voters today to @SaveAmerInBloom

Tomorrow sees a by-election for an Amersham Town Councillor. We are pleased to see at least 2 parties - Conservative and Labour - openly opposing the changes to Amersham in Bloom. We assume the Green candidate is too. We hope people will support any of these 3 candidates.

[Save Amersham in Bloom @SaveAmerInBloom]

@markspeaking @libdemdom One of our supporters had an email from your by-election candidate justifying the actions you are taking on Bloom blaming a Town Clerk who can’t speak for himself. A disgraceful buck-passing email. When will you take responsibility as elected Cllrs?

[Save Amersham in Bloom @SaveAmerInBloom]

We are at 500 signatures! Thanks for all the support to date. Please continue to share the petition and let’s see if we can get common sense to prevail with our Town Council politicians.

@MATatBucks if one of our supporters wrote to you to explain the @BucksCouncil Council Tax rise would you insist on them signing up to a Conservative Party mailing list before you answered?

[Save Amersham in Bloom @SaveAmerInBloom]

@markspeaking This has made us so angry. It’s blatant data gathering for political purposes. You replied in personal email so could have answered the question. Residents deserve an answer without having to give Lib Dems their data. @bucksfreepress @SarahGreenLD @ChesAmerTories

@markspeaking One of our campaign supporters emailed you asking you to justify the 18% increase. We’ve just seen your reply. Please explain why Amersham residents need to sign up to a Lib Dem mailing list before they can get an answer?

And whilst they are at it - will they please explain why we are paying for the privilege of them politicising and commercialising a perfectly successful Amersham in Bloom? Nearly 500 people now signed our petition against their plans.

[Louise Staite @LouiseStaite]

🙋🏼‍♀️I keep asking but @SarahGreenLD @markspeaking (not speaking) @libdemdom don’t seem to be able to answer the question & defend their tax hike for Amersham residents. I’ll ask again.

How can you justify an 18.11% rise in our council tax?

[Save Amersham in Bloom @SaveAmerInBloom]

Don’t forget - this is also so they can politicise and commercialise Amersham in Bloom!

[Chesham and Amersham Conservative Association @ChesAmerTories]

Council Tax bills landed in Amersham today. So Amersham residents can see for themselves that Lib Dems have put their tax up by 18.1% - making Amersham residents pay highest tax in Chilterns. We can’t get LD Mayor @markspeaking to justify it. He’s sadly more marknotspeaking.

[Save Amersham in Bloom @SaveAmerInBloom]

Here it it is in black and white. Amersham residents paying in Council Tax, and Amersham in Bloom being commercialised and politicised.

[Louise Staite @LouiseStaite]

Council tax demand landed -18.1% increase by the new LibDem town council.

Can ⁦@calibdems⁩ ⁦@markspeaking⁩ ⁦@SarahGreenLD⁩ or ⁦@libdemdom⁩ defend it yet? We’ve been waiting a while.

@BreamBetty @SarahGreenLD @markspeaking @libdemdom We aren’t the MP or Amersham Town Councillors? So you don’t get to ‘tap the screen’ to us.We’ve patiently indulged your questions over many tweets. Your very 1st tweet demonstrated you’d already decided to defend the proposal. That’s fine, but we will spend our time elsewhere now.

[Save Amersham in Bloom @SaveAmerInBloom]

Still no answer - @SarahGreenLD @markspeaking @libdemdom ?

[Save Amersham in Bloom @SaveAmerInBloom]

48 hours later and no response from either @SarahGreenLD @libdemdom or @markspeaking . All 3 found time yesterday to pose for photographs in the Memorial Gardens - we assume to take credit again for Amersham in Bloom in their next set of leaflets.
