Braved storm Floris, for an Early Learning Childcare (ELC) roundtable meeting today with Martin Whitfield at the Parliament. Good and positive discussions were had, ELC, wraparound school care, ASN and the workforce. @ScotChildmind@_MWhitfield@ELCouncil
A new survey is seeking views and information from funded early learning and childcare providers in the private, third and childminding sectors.
The survey led by @diffleypartners will help with rates-setting by local authorities.
SEYA is being recognised as a grass roots organisation, representing the ELC sector, it doesnt matter if your PVI, childminder, LA or playgroups, we are all invested and know the current challenges. Our voices are being heard.

@NatalieDon_ In your short time as CYP Minister, we thank you for the time you have taken to engage with us & please lets continue to get the 1140 funding policy right, fo all children & Families, a tough job with the beauracracy of Local Government. @_KateForbes @COSLA
It has been the honour of my life representing the people of Renfrewshire North and West. However, I have tonight informed local members that I will not be seeking re-election in the 2026 Scottish Parliament election.
@CheetaraMummy This is shocking, Education officers need to be accountable for mis spending the budget, along with all other elected councilors. @NatalieDon_@COSLA
Do you not see what's happening with the 1140 policy

Please invest as early as possible, not just at school age, allowing children to be supported and strategies embedded by the early years workforce is crucial in their little lives & avoiding larger issues at school.
Reviewing how mainstream and special education is provided to meet current and future additional support needs and demands is urgent.
Councils and @scotgov must work with pupils, parents, and carers and staff on this.

@StephenMorganMP Early help is key and it’s positive to see investment being done here. I’m still on the fence about school based nurseries as we can’t see that as the only answer but let’s try and work together. That’s what it should be about

I don't believe Scotlands accounts will be any more transparent.Given what we saw at the recent Edinburgh Council Education meetin. This has been raised to SG, Audit Scotland, COSLA and Public Spending Ombudsman, yet sadly nothing gets done. @NatalieDon_
Modern Parenting: Evolution or Fad?
I was a parent in the 80s and 90s when “to parent” was not a verb. Nowadays, parenting is a thing. It has various names such as gentle parenting, but has this made us better parents?

We are also seeing more parents impacted by children's behaviour. Boundaries & consequences have been taken away & a decline of parental support. It can be fixed by more recognition, investment for the Early Years teachers & priority being pre birth to 3. @NatalieDon_
Totally, they must invest & value the Early Years professionals & we wouldn't have as many poor children suffering with self regulation & resilience. It's a partnership with families from pre birth. We see it before Health Visitors do. @CalumRoss23@NatalieDon_@_MWhitfield
@TheScotsman@CalumRoss23 The real question is…why are the numbers of kids with special needs soaring? What’s at the root of that statistic? That’s where government should be focusing, not simply treating a symptom🤷♂️
A new blog from the Chair of the Accounts Commission, Jo Armstrong.
Earlier this month, we published a report on the progress of transformation in local government.

But making them accountable and clearer transparency on their spending is crucial. Far too many budgets have been mis spent, and Councils blame government rather than themselves
It is high time Government took serious control over council spending, and scrutinised their budgets to make them accountable for spending public money on best value and not for their own benefit @COSLA@AccCommScot@CalumRoss23@SPSO_Ombudsman
Jenny Gilruth has been withholding £145.5m from councils for half a year amid a stand-off over teacher cuts. Some of our recent coverage 👇 https://t.co/YRPQ3DXTy3
Totally, I have just shared her story with friends and I said the same. She certainly brought a tear to my eyes, and saw the person on front of me wiping hers too. We all have such a passion, to keep going and we will not give up.
Can honestly say, Jen's stories brought a tear to my eyes, and wish there were more HT like her. What a better place it would be for our children and young people.

Retired Headteacher @JKnussen tells the story at @UpstartScot of the child who changed her. He was a child in care, suffering. "No one can help me."
This is the birthplace of the term "distressed behaviour".
Oh my ❤️. I remember the first time I heard her tell this story.
