Happy to discuss if you’d like. But what I’d tell you is this, you gotta apply first principles thinking to it. Ask yourself why are we reading from the Scriptures? Why are we all here gathered at the church at first place? Values and community is merely a consequence. Once you understand that it’s all about acknowledging who Jesus is, and going down that rabbit hole, every thing will make sense, including values and community you are looking for. Focus absolutely only on understanding Jesus first, what he said, what he did, what he proposed to those willing to follow him. “Submit” is merely a decision of acknowledgment of Jesus Message and a decision to follow Him recognizing that He is who he says He is, the son of the living God, the divine Logos incarnated, Our Lord and Savior. Once you understand the magnitude and depth of that, it’s a game changer, it’s like being born again. It’s ok to be curious, and to ask questions, just don’t stop there, but actually go after the answers. Learn the history about the scriptures. Read the Gospels yourself. Those are historical documents of people that witnessed Jesus’ life. Talk to the Holy Spirit in your intimate, He will guide you.
