JOINT PRESS STATEMENT: The Systematic Dismantling of Environmental Protection in the Maldives
@TransparencyMV and @ecocare_mv alongside civil society organisations and community groups across the country, are raising this alarm — we cannot stay silent.
Opaque mega-development projects threatening places like Villimalé and the Addu UNESCO Biosphere Reserve are not isolated decisions — they are part of a pattern.
Stop the ecocide in Villingili now. Every moment of delay means more trees lost, more damage to our ecosystem. If we don’t act now, we risk losing it for good. Rise up, speak out, and defend our island before it’s too late. @MMuizzu@China_Amb_Mdv@bankofmaldives#SaveVillingili
A free press needs more than headlines, it needs access to information.
This #WorldPressFreedomDay, we highlight the power of RTI in strengthening journalism. When journalists can access public information, they can verify facts, challenge narratives, and hold power to account.
#MVTreeGrab is a disease that will afflict our islands as long as our living reefs are being killed by @governmentmv to make artificial tourist resorts for greedy "investors" cannibalising #Maldives.
Why is the local council killing Vaikaradhoo?
@VaikaradhooMv@councilsmv
Why should BML a PRIVATE company be privy to my immigration status
BML is already so tangled in with our country that people forget they have board members that do not answer to the public
There's no way to hold them accountable other than through our already weak court system
Thank you city council for the ramp. And thanks to the construction company that added this beautiful protective barrier around it. Ensuring no wheelchair or mobility assistance device could use the ramp.
Amazing.
Now a Bank knows that I am actively not in country because "somehow" without my consent some government agency is actively telling them my business.
Where will this end?!
Where is my right to privacy?!
@Mihaarunews Linking immigration data with banks raises serious concerns. You’re talking about sharing sensitive personal movement data — this touches on data protection laws and requires clear, informed customer consent. @bankofmaldives
Sitting in an @MTCCPlc bus at Dharumavantha stop for the last 30 minutes, with no sign of a driver. The call center couldn’t tell us when a driver will arrive. At the very least, if there is a delay, passengers should be informed before paying, or provide refunds.
We reject the government’s plan to build 17-storey housing towers in Villingili. This is non-negotiable. This project threatens our last green spaces, increases congestion, and disregards community concerns. Share this. Raise your voice. Keep the pressure on. #SaveVillingili
@adamazim@MaleCitymv
We must NOT cut down the Funa trees/Tamanu trees (Alexander Laurel wood)in Villimale to clear land for constructing flats! Sustainable development can incorporate architectural planning and design cleverly and smartly by including these mature trees into their plans.
"Ge elhidhaane, ekamaku funa valeh an'buraa nulibeyne"
A request was made today to the Parliament's committee to arrange a meeting to share the concerns of relevant experts regarding the decision to cut down trees and build housing units in the Funavaa area of Villingili.
