Science folks! Some help with jargon-y grammar?

Is it [pick your fav post-translational mod] on [residue] or [PTM] at [residue]?

I've always used "at" but apparently people use "on" as well? "Phosphorylation on S###" just sounds wrong to me. 🤷‍♀️
