The case, linked to the suspicious death of Manjaragi, a resident of Ghodageri in Hukkeri taluk, is being investigated under the supervision of CPI Javed Mushapure of Yamakanmardi police station.
Earlier, the victim's wife, Suma Manjaragi, and her alleged lover, Pundalik Dombar, were arrested in connection with the case.
According to police sources, fresh developments in the investigation point to attempts to tamper with key forensic evidence.
Acting on these inputs, investigators have detained two additional persons for questioning.
One of them is reportedly associated with the office of the city police commissioner and is suspected of interfering in forensic procedures, allegedly attempting to influence or destroy material evidence.
The second individual is also being questioned for his suspected role in evidence tampering.
Meanwhile, a selfie video purportedly recorded by Dombar has gone viral, adding a new dimension to the case.
In the video, he makes a series of serious allegations about the circumstances leading to Manjaragi's death.
Dombar claims he developed a close relationship with Suma Manjaragi while working in Sandeep's tea business after the latter retired from military service. He further alleges that Suma had been administering sleeping pills and alcohol to her husband over a period of time.
He also claims that Sandeep was hospitalised after meeting with an accident while returning from the Hukkeri jatra.
During that time, he alleges, Suma instructed him to procure pesticide from their farm, which he delivered. According to his version, Sandeep died the following day.
Police have not officially confirmed the veracity of these claims and are treating the video as part of the ongoing investigation.
Senior officials reiterated that all angles-including the alleged conspiracy, financial motive, and possible evidence of tampering-are being thoroughly probed.

Police in Andhra Pradesh's Parvathipuram Manyam district have solved the murder of a 32-year-old tribal woman within two days of registering the case, arresting her alleged lover, a staff nurse, and the lover's cousin for their involvement in the crime.
The deceased, identified as Boddika Usharani, was allegedly murdered after she pressured her lover, Reddy Bhuvaneswar (25), to marry her. Police said Bhuvaneswar, a resident of M. Singupuram, conspired with staff nurse Kruparani (35) and his cousin Tejeswar Rao (23) to eliminate her.
According to investigators, Usharani and Bhuvaneswar had developed a relationship while working as village volunteers. However, Bhuvaneswar later became involved with Kruparani, a contract staff nurse. When Usharani learned about the affair and insisted on marriage, the accused allegedly began planning her murder.
Police said Kruparani provided sleeping pills and advised Bhuvaneswar on how to carry out the crime. On June 6, Bhuvaneswar allegedly lured Usharani into a car on the pretext of a temple visit to Rayagada in Odisha. During the journey, he reportedly mixed sleeping tablets into a soft drink and gave it to her.
When the victim lost consciousness but did not die, the accused allegedly picked up Kruparani and drove to an under-construction site near Kollivalasa. There, police said, all three accused smothered Usharani to death by covering her mouth and nose.
Following the murder, the accused allegedly disposed of her mobile phone and SIM card and dumped the body in a dried-up lake near Amadalavalasa. Fearing the body would be discovered, Bhuvaneswar and Tejeswar Rao later returned to the spot and moved it to another location.
Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, police arrested all three accused and produced them before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
In a sensational twist in the March 13 suspected accidental death of a retired soldier in Karnataka's Belagavi, police on Saturday said he was poisoned to death by his wife and her paramour for Rs 2 crore insurance money.
Police have arrested the duo on the disclosure of the woman's paramour even as the body has been exhumed and the remains sent for FSL examination.
The retired soldier Sandeep Manjargi hailing from Ghodageri village in Hukkeri taluk of Belagavi district was reportedly injured in a road accident on March 13, 2026 while he was going to the Hukkeri fair. Manjargi was admitted to a private hospital in Ghataprabha for treatment and breathed his last on the third day of treatment.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that his wife Suma, along with her paramour Pundalik Domber had poisoned Manjargi to death to usurp the insurance money after his death.
Police investigation revealed that after the ex-soldier's death, Pundalik had demanded an equal share of the Rs 2 crore insurance money from Suma, who turned down the demand. Pundalik threatened Suma to expose her, but she did not budge, police said.
It is understood that Pundalik revealed the matter to his friends, who advised him to report it to the police. On the advice of his friends, Pundalik met the Yamakanamaradi police a few days ago and revealed the murder. Following Pundalik's disclosure, police called Sandeep's wife Suma for questioning during which she confessed to the crime.
Based on the statements of both Suma and Pundalik, the body of former soldier Sandeep Manjargi was exhumed in the presence of Belagavi Sub-Divisional Officer Shravan Nayak and a post-mortem was conducted again. The remains and organs have been sent to the FSL. The accused duo has been arrested and a case has been registered at Yamakanamaradi police station.
The deceased's brother Sanjay Manjargi demanded stern punishment to the accused while expressing shock at his brother's murder.
“We were told that our brother had an accident while going to a fair. When he died in the hospital, a post-mortem was conducted. But there was no mention of poison in that report either. So, we kept quiet and believed that it was an accidental death. But there was a dispute between the Sandeep and wife over property and money,” he said.
“We knew that she did not want a husband, she only wanted money. But we never imagined that she would join hands with someone else and commit such a murder. We came to know about this murder only when the police called us. We have demanded that the guilty be severely punished”.
Accused Pundalik Domber has released a video statement, in which he confessed to his relationship with the woman and her plan to kill her husband by poisoning him.
Pundalik said that she had promished to give him part of the insurance money after her husband's death.
“Suma had said that we should go to Belgavi with four children including my two and settle down. But now an ex-soldier has died. He should not be treated unfairly. Sandeep's wife Suma should face strict legal action. If I have lied in this, I am ready to go to jail. This should be re-investigated. Until then, not a single rupee of insurance should be paid,” Pundalik said in the video.
A woman and her alleged lover have been arrested for the murder of her husband in Sarpavaram, Kakinada district, in a case that police say was initially disguised as a natural death.
The deceased, identified as Durgaprasad, was a former auto-rickshaw driver who had been suffering from health issues following a heart procedure conducted two years ago. Due to his condition, he had reportedly stopped working and was largely confined to his home.
According to police, Durgaprasad's wife allegedly developed a relationship with Prasadam Gopi Sai, a resident of Bapatla, after the two became acquainted through social media. Investigators said tensions arose when Durgaprasad grew suspicious of the relationship and confronted his wife.
Police allege that the woman and her lover then conspired to kill him. As part of the plan, Gopi Sai allegedly procured sleeping pills, which were mixed into muskmelon juice and served to Durgaprasad. After he became unconscious, the woman allegedly smothered him with a pillow, resulting in his death.
The death was initially presented as a heart attack, and family members accepted the explanation because Durgaprasad had a known history of cardiac illness.
However, the case took a dramatic turn when Gopi Sai allegedly sent a WhatsApp message to one of the victim's daughters, claiming that her father's death was not natural and revealing details of the alleged murder plot.
The daughters immediately approached the police, prompting an investigation by Sarpavaram police. During the probe, officers reportedly uncovered evidence supporting the allegations and arrested both the woman and her alleged lover.
The accused have been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigation into the case is underway.

A shocking domestic tragedy unfolded in Mahadevapura when a home guard was stabbed to death by her husband in front of their two children and family members after he reportedly lured her into a reconciliation meeting and attacked her with a knife.
The deceased has been identified as Manjula (32). She was serving as a home guard attached to the Mahadevapura police station. The accused husband has been identified as Pradeep. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at her parental residence in B Narayanapura.
Based on the preliminary investigation, police said Pradeep had become addicted to online betting and had been facing financial and family problems. Before the murder, he reportedly recorded selfie videos claiming that the betting habit had ruined his family and stating that both he and his wife would die.
A senior officer said that Manjula had been living separately at her parental home after years of marital discord. Family members alleged that Pradeep frequently suspected her character and even questioned the paternity of their children. Unable to bear the harassment, she had moved away from him.
On Sunday, Pradeep visited Manjula's house claiming he wanted to apologise and reconcile. He reportedly begged for forgiveness and requested her to return home.
However, police said he had concealed a knife inside his jacket.
During an argument, when Manjula moved near him, Pradeep pulled her close and stabbed her repeatedly, inflicting around 20 knife wounds. The brutal attack took place in front of their children, leaving the family traumatised.
After the attack, the accused allegedly attempted to harm himself by slashing his hand before fleeing the scene. Manjula succumbed to her injuries.
Mahadevapura Police registered a murder case and launched a manhunt. The accused was later traced and arrested. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
In the selfie video, Pradeep stated that he could not live without his wife. "I had called my in-laws and spoken to them to solve the issues between us. I knew she would return home after work in the evening. When I apologise to her, if she refuses to come back to me, I will immediately kill her. My wife is really a good person; she is influenced by her family members."
He also apologised to family members and friends. He suggested that people should not play online games. "Because of gaming, my marital life is ruined. My wife and children came to the streets. Both my wife and I are dying today. Money is the most important thing in life."
Manjula's mother told the media that she and her son had attended the funeral of a relative and returned home around 7 pm. They found Pradeep apologising to Manjula. She and her son were heading to take a bath. On the pretext of falling at Manjula's feet, he pulled her legs and stabbed her multiple times. When they rushed her to a nearby government hospital, doctors declared that she had been brought dead.
Pradeep has lost over Rs 7 lakh to Rs 8 lakh in online betting. He used to suspect Manjula's fidelity when she attended duty and returned home late. Unable to bear the harassment, she had decided to divorce him and had approached a lawyer and filed a petition. The torture had become more severe since January this year, she added.
Three days after the body of a 34- year-old woman was recovered from a local tank near Tumarada village in Palakonda mandal, the Parvathipuram Manyam district police arrested three persons - including the woman's boyfriend, his female friend, and another individual in connection with the murder.
The victim, B Usha Rani, was a native of Barna Seethampeta in Palakonda mandal. The accused have been identified as R. Bhuvaneswar, a native of M Singupuram, along with his friends T Kruparani and S Tejeswara Rao.
When Usha Rani served as a volunteer under the previous government, she developed a friendship with fellow volunteer Bhuvaneswar. The two later entered a romantic relationship and planned to marry. However, Bhuvaneswar developed an illicit relationship with Kruparani, a married woman working as a contract nurse in a local hospital.
Bhuvaneswar, with the support of Kruparani and Tejeswara Rao, allegedly planned the murder as Usha Rani was pressuring him to marry her, while he wished to continue his affair with Kruparani.
As per the plan, the trio took Usha Rani in a car and offered her a soft drink laced with a sedative. They later strangled her to death on June 6.
Initially, they disposed of her body in a local tank near Amudalavalasa in Srikakulam district on the night of June 6. However, as the water level was low and the body remained visible, they retrieved it, transported it to Tumarada village in Palakonda mandal, tied heavy stones to it, and dumped it in another tank before fleeing, police said.
The body was found floating in the tank on June 9. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Bhuvaneswar, Kruparani, and Tejeswara Rao. The trio reportedly confessed to the crime, police added.
The Ballari police have cracked a sensational murder case in which a young man was allegedly strangled to death and his body partially burnt by the relatives of a woman he had been allegedly harassing for over a year.
The deceased has been identified as Basavanagouda Patil (26) , who worked in a private laboratory.
Police have arrested three accused in connection with the case — Dodda Basavanagouda, his wife Shwetha, and her brother Vijay.
All three have been remanded to judicial custody. Basavanagouda had gone missing on the night of June 7.
The following morning, his partially burnt body was discovered near the Shivapura-Tambragalli LLC canal under the jurisdiction of Moka Police Station.
Initially, investigators suspected the murder could be linked to a love affair. However, a detailed probe revealed a different motive behind the crime.
According to police, Basavanagouda had allegedly been sending obscene videos and messages to a married woman, Shwetha, and repeatedly pressuring her to cooperate with him.
The harassment reportedly continued for nearly a year, causing severe mental distress to the woman.
Unable to tolerate the alleged harassment any longer, Shwetha informed her husband and brother about the matter. The trio then allegedly conspired to eliminate Basavanagouda.
As per the investigation, on June 7, Shwetha allegedly called Basavanagouda and asked him to meet her at a secluded location near Moka. When he arrived at the spot, Dodda Basavanagouda and Vijay, who were allegedly waiting there, attacked him and strangled him with a rope.
After committing the murder, the accused reportedly transported the body nearly 10 kilometres away to a deserted area. They then poured petrol on the corpse and set it on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence before fleeing to Bengaluru.
Providing details about the case, Ballari Superintendent of Police Suman D. Pennekar said, “The deceased had allegedly been sending videos to a woman and pressuring her to cooperate with him. The woman informed her husband and brother about the harassment. As the harassment continued, they planned to kill him. They lured the victim to the Shivapura-Tambragalli canal area, strangled him with a rope, and later attempted to destroy evidence by burning the body with petrol. All three accused, who had fled to Bengaluru, have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Further investigation is underway.
Police said an examination of the deceased’s mobile phone revealed that he had allegedly sent inappropriate messages to several women.
Investigators tracked his communication records, mobile location data and call details, which ultimately led to the arrest of the accused.
The police added that the accused have confessed to their involvement during questioning.
Police have cracked a suspicious death case under the Sarpavaram Police Station limits in Kakinada district, establishing that it was a premeditated murder.
The deceased, Pulla Durga Prasad (38), a car driver residing in Mandapam Colony of Sarpavaram village, was initially believed to have died of natural causes. However, the investigation revealed that his wife, Pulla Devi alias Rama Devi, and Prasadam Gopi Sai, a resident of Cherukupalli Mandal in Bapatla district, were engaged in an extramarital affair and conspired to eliminate him as he stood in the way of their relationship.
As per police findings, on March 12, 2026, Gopi Sai purchased ALPRAX 0.5 mg tablets and handed them over to Devi. The following day, Devi mixed the tablets into muskmelon juice and administered it to her husband. After he lost consciousness, she allegedly suffocated him using a pillow, resulting in his death.
The accused then misled relatives by claiming that the death was due to a heart attack and cremated the body. The crime came to light during the subsequent inquiry.
In a crucial development, on May 31, 2026, Gopi Sai sent WhatsApp messages to the deceased's daughter, disclosing details of the murder along with photographs of the tablet purchase bills and prescription.
This electronic evidence played a key role in advancing the investigation.
Following a complaint lodged by the deceased's elder brother on June 9, 2026, a case was registered at Sarpavaram Police Station. Based on the village revenue officer's report, the accused's supplementary confession, electronic evidence, witness statements, and seized material objects, the case was altered on June 11, 2026, to relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS 103(1), 61(2)(a) and 238(a)).

A 22-year-old man allegedly strangled his 19-year-old recently married sister on Friday and dumped her body into a field after she allegedly refused to end her relationship with another man in Fatehpur district’s Haswa town in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday.
The accused Sandeep Yadav walked into Haswa police outpost on Saturday morning and confessed to killing his sister Ranju Yadav as she did not agree to end her affair with a local identified as Afsar even after her marriage to Ajay Yadav aka Pintu of Sonhai Badnapur village on May 1 this year.
Police said Sandeep revealed that his sister had left home to be with Afsar even before her marriage. After the marriage, during a customary visit back to her parents’ home, she allegedly eloped with Afsar again, returning three days later on May 16. The family worked out a compromise and sent her back to her husband. However, she kept saying she did not want to stay married.
When Sandeep, who works in Ahmedabad, heard what was happening, he travelled to Fatehpur on June 10, visited his sister’s in-laws and tried to convince her but in vain, police added.
On the night of June 12, Sandeep picked his sister up from her in-laws’ house in an auto rickshaw. They got off near Bilanda bridge and walked along a canal path into the forest near Haswa town.
