New essay: LLMs vs. Marketplaces
Many are predicting that LLMs will get between the customer and major marketplaces like Amazon, Airbnb, and DoorDash, destroying their economics in the process.
It's true that LLMs put new pressure on marketplaces, and that some of them will struggle. But many will be just fine.
In the essay I outline which marketplaces are likely to win, and which are likely to lose.
I also lay out a playbook for marketplaces to thrive in the LLM era:
1. Do the hard things that LLMs won’t. You must be a managed marketplace.
2. Build AI search natively into your product. Your customers will expect it.
3. If you have high market share, play hardball with the LLMs. You have more leverage than most people think.
4. Now is not the time to get greedy on monetization. Your margin is ChatGPT's opportunity.

Update on our pure veg fleet —
While we are going to continue to have a fleet for vegetarians, we have decided to remove the on-ground segregation of this fleet on the ground using the colour green. All our riders — both our regular fleet, and our fleet for vegetarians, will wear the colour red.
This means that the fleet meant for vegetarian orders will not be identifiable on the ground (but will show on the app that your veg orders will be served by the veg only fleet).
This will ensure that our red uniform delivery partners are not incorrectly associated with non-veg food, and blocked by any RWAs or societies during any special days… our rider’s physical safety is of paramount importance to us.
We now realise that even some of our customers could get into trouble with their landlords, and that would not be a nice if that happened because of us.
