Set a timer for 10 minutes.

That's it.

Try to knock out a few of these tasks:
✓ Charge your power banks.
✓ Update your emergency contacts.
✓ Take photos of any new insurance cards or documents.
✓ Confirm your family's meeting location if phones fail.
✓ Check the batteries in your flashlight.
✓ Make sure your vehicle has at least half a tank of gas.
✓ Review your evacuation route and an alternate route.
✓ Identify one neighbor you could help and one neighbor who could help you.
✓ Save an out-of-state contact who can serve as a family check-in point during an emergency.
✓ Make a list to restock any medications, pet supplies, or other essentials you rely on regularly.

Ten minutes today can save you hours of stress later. Preparedness isn't built in a day. It's built in small decisions made before they become urgent. The goal is never perfection. The goal is being a little more ready tomorrow than you were yesterday. Easy peasy!

Austin Metcalf received the death penalty.

Karmelo Anthony received 35 years.

One of them lives.
One of them gets a gravestone.

Save the faux outrage.

The real victim in this case is NOT the convicted killer.

The real victim is the young man who will never come home again and the family that will spend the rest of their lives grieving a loss that can never be undone.

This was a track meet.

A place for competition, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

NOT violence.
NOT murder.

And spare us the racial narratives.

Murder is wrong regardless of the race of the victim or the perpetrator. Any decent society should be able to agree on that.

And while some are busy turning this tragedy into a racial debate, the Metcalf family is looking at the empty chair at the dinner table and remembering who actually paid the highest price.

As a teacher of 10 years and a Black Christian man, I’m removing ALL racial bias and calling it straight:
He brought a weapon to school — that alone is an automatic crime and grounds for expulsion. Then he put himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and chose to stab another kid instead of walking away.
This is an open-and-shut case. Without the politics and racial tension being forced into it, everyone would see the facts clearly: Karmelo Anthony killed that boy.
